How many calories are you eating?

Recommended Posts

I am a little over 4 weeks out. I have only lost 9.5 lbs. I have always been a fast loser in the past. I have been getting my Water in without a problem. I am getting around 50-60 grams of Protein in. My calories are 600-700 a day. Carbs 30-40. I think my body is in starvation mode. How many calories are you eating and losing weight with? I know everyone is different, but need some suggestions.

That is the same question I have asked numerous times and get no answer from the Dr. or dietitian ! and wow you are doing great I am barely getting 300 calories in 8 weeks out and sometimes drinking 2 16oz waters a day is hard for me!! all I can say is you are doing a good job and let me know if you happen to find out how many calories a day wee are supposed to eat! Thanks.. Good Luck..

Hi! I was sleeved 12/10/10 , and my husband four weeks before me, and our nutritionist did not give us very much post-op information. The hospital gave us some, but we have learned a lot more from these boards. I have only lost 14 pounds since surgery. Noone told us to get in the "XX" ounces of Protein, nor "XX" Water. I know I am not getting 60 of either! And I have no idea how many calories I am taking in. Should I be more closely tracking? The one thing I am trying to do is keep limiting carbs because they are definately my weakness.

Looking forward to other posts on this topic, too.

My diet is to be between 600-800 calories a day along with 60 grams of Protein and 60 of Water. I am no where near the water consumption but I am getting the protein. Right now I seem to be averaging about 3 lbs a week. I normally walk every day at lunch around the apartment complex and a couple of miles on the weekend. I did have a stall around week 2 but I was still losing inches. Walking was stressed a lot for us also. How much walking or exercising are you doing?

I was sleeved on 12/27/2010. I was told to try and eat 800-1200 calories a day with at least 90 gms of Protein. My starting weight is close to 300lbs. I have been taking Protein shakes with extra Protein powder in them. The shake is about 15gms Protein and with the soy milk -9 gms and extra Protein Powder 20gms that is 44 gms per shake. Calories are 150 + 70+ 80= 300 calories. I try 2 of those a day and 1 without the extra powder. It takes me almost 1 hr to drink 1 shake. And I do have to stop and get over the "I'm gonna explode" feeling.

It sounds like your body is not getting enough calories/ protein to function. Your body will use your stored muscle mass to fuel itself and you will get weak and dehydrated.

I was told to sip all day long if that is what it takes to get in 64 oz of Water. If I have "dragon breath" then I know I have to drink more. And I was told my pee should be lemonaide color.

I say write it down. Include time, protein and calories, then plan when you are going to do for the next time.

I was also told to keep protein and carbs in a 1:1 ratio.

I have lost 9 lbs in the last 4 days.

Best of luck and I hope this helps!!

I am at the end of my 7th week post-op and I am usually getting in around 800 calories a day with 60+ grams of Protein and about 40oz of Water. These past two weeks have been "bad" though since we've been traveling and I haven't got in as much Protein each day! LOL

Since 1 Nov (surgery was on the 15th) I have lost at least 45lbs but haven't tracked my weight officially since I've been on leave. When I get back home on Monday I'll do an official weigh in at my 8 weeks. I've been losing about 1/2 - 1 lb per day!

I walk 2 miles a day. I am not released to do any other type of exercise. I had issues with one of my incisions from picking up my daughter too soon post op. I also just started back to work. I do a ton of walking at work. I am a store manager for a major retailer. I know stalls are normal, but I never really have had a major loss. When I did weight watchers and la weight loss, I lost about 4-5 lbs a week. It is just so confusing. I have an appt with my nut next week.

I was sleeved on 12/27 and my dr said ONLY Clear Liquids until my first post op appt and about 50-60 g of Protein a day, plus 64 oz Water. I think I only got to about 20 g of protein today, and maybe 24 oz liquids. This is my first full day home from the hospital and without IV nutrition, so I know I better kick it up a few notches or Im not gonna be feeling too good. Honestly right not Im not even concerned with how many calories Im eating, Im just sticking to broths Crystal Light and Protein Shakes. At this point calories would be welcome because Im know Im not getting enough of the nutrients I need and really cant get over this feeling that my poor body is starving. Is this normal for someone less than a week out? I guess a good thing is I lost 17 lbs since my post surgery weight. But once again is this normal? LOL. I just want to make sure Im doing everything I can to avoid getting sick.

I'm three and a half weeks out, and my guidelines are 64 oz of Water, 60+ grams of Protein, under 40 grams carbs. I don't have a calorie restriction, but was told 700 was about right. I'm actually struggling to eat that much.

Tiffnie-concentrate on your liquids so you don't end up back on the hospital. The first week is all about hydration. If you can get Protein Shakes in that's a bonus. I was lucky, I had no issues with Protein. I figured out to drink it out of my drink shaker bottle. You don't smell the protein that way

Thanks Lisa

So Im thinking that if I drink 2 oz/hr from 7am to 11pm thats 32 oz, that I know I can do. With 3 oz per hour its 48 and thats decent, so Im gonna shoot for that eventually. Im really not tolerating Protein Shakes except Atkins but I ordered powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup and some samples of unflavored and chocolate. I know that protein will be better once those come, if I like the unflavored Im gonna put that in EVERYTHING. So tomorrow I guess my focus is liquids, liquids, liquids! broth counts as liquids too right?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
