Cigna folks?

Recommended Posts

Calling all Cigna folks....did you have to do 6 months of Dr. supervised diets prior to approval????? I read on the policy that over a certain BMI you don't have to....but the surgeon's office coordinator told me there are no exceptions for Cigna.....what do you all think? Thanks, Tracy

[/quote I was told 6 months with Cigna, but to go to my doctor for a weigh -in every 25 days so it shaves a month off of the 6 months. My doctor just weighs me and takes my bp and then signs the form for that month. Hate the $30 copay but that's Cigna....I also could count an earlier visit when I told her I was going to attend an information seminar by the weight loss group.

Yes, I did.

You could do a program such as Jenny Craig, or Weight Watchers and then go to your doctor once a month to review them with him/her and have him sign off.

Mainly because you need more than just your weight for it to work. You also need documentation of exercise AND food intake.

Maybe each employer's plan is different. I did not have to show my doc any documentation of my diet. I just told him what I was doing as far as diet and excercise. He took very good notes and I weighed in and got my bp taken every month.

Hi again,

So one of you said that you had to have documentation on your exercise and food intake and a couple more of you didn't! Is either one a Cigna thing or the PCP thing or what???? Thanks, again! Tracy

I have to have my PCP weigh me and take my bp every month for 6 months. My understanding is its a requirement for everyone with Cigna. You CAN go every 25 days and shave off a month which is what my weightloss group told me to do-----I thought that was brilliant.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
