Looking forward to 2011

Recommended Posts

This is my first post. I have been struggling with weight all my life. Finally after 20 years of struggling this could be my year. I have an appointment with my doctor January 5th, 2011. I have mixed emotions. I want to be excited but yet I worry over the insurance. I have been weighing in at my doctors office for two months now so that is 1/3 over with. I so want a new life. I have been working on that one for that last couple years. I went through a nasty divorce and became a single mom of three wonderful children. I have been up, down and all around the last couple of years. I am proud to say I will be graduating in May 2011 with my AS degree and then on to Respiratory Care. I sit at night and all I can think about is this woman who has tried so hard and this year all of her dreams could come true. Finally a new year to do that New Year resolution and lose this weight and have a new start at a completely new me! Good luck to all that are trying and have done. I wish you the best. For those who think it is impossible, don't give up nothing is impossible if you believe.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
