accidental lapband death

Recommended Posts

Shelly,

Notice the date on the article. Since that was published, it was also mentioned that the woman didn't want anyone to know she had the LapBand, AND she did not contact her band surgeon and she went to a hospital other than the one that did her LapBand (so the hospital had no records) and that by the time she or anyone in her family notified the attending that the surgery had been performed and s/he was able to contact the band surgeon, it was just way too late.

There may have been a surgical error. But the reason she died was apparently fear of having others know of her surgery. (Granted, SOMEBODY should have asked what the big white silastic circle showing up on her x-rays was...but, who knows.)

Thank you for the information. I'm getting banded in 15 days. I appreciate all then negative as well as positive. I'm going to die if I don't lose weight though. I have too many health issues at 312 pounds. Like Red said in 'Shawshank Redepmtion', "either get busy living, or get busy dying."

Delarla

that is so true. i love that movie. i cant tell you how many times i have seen it.

i do post complications or deaths because although rare they are possable.

i like coffeewench's signature that she took from sue:

"In my experience, my weight loss surgery WAS "the easy way out." So was my c-section. In both cases, the "the hard way out" was dying."~GeezerSue aka Nothergeezer

i was at 350 when i started the wls journey. i was 26 having chest pain, shortness of breath, wheezing, pain in my joints etc. i DID NOT want to die. i am getting busy living!

good luck delarla!

I agree... it is nice to get information... good or bad. There is risk with any surgical procedure... not just this one... but the risks are so much less with this procedure than with something such as the RNY. Thanks for sharing the story... it's really the only death I have heard of since researching the band though I am sure there must be others... I've heard and read of many deaths associated with the RNY and that was why I was so glad there was a different and safer option. (o:
