Change in attitude towards appearance?

Recommended Posts

Hi:

When I reached a certain weight I lost all interest in my general appearance....stopped wearing make-up except when going to special functions, didn't really care what colour or style my hair was in which was usually a pony tail, didn't care about clothes just as long as they didn't make me look fatter. My personal hygeine never changed but I stopped doing things like waxing my brows, shaving my legs on a regular basis...did it only when I absolutely had to, etc.

I am now 8 days post-op and I noticed this morning that my attitude is starting to change....this morning I got up early to give myself enough time to pay attention to nails, hair, shaving, make-up, jewelery......when I came downstairs my husband made a double-take.....cause its been sooo long.

Did this happen to anyone else?

Carol

Yes it did and it just gets better and better. I remember I started doing my hair when I would just pull it back in a half ass ponytail. Now I take the time every morning to curl it. I actualy WANT to wear clothes now. Before I would wear black pants and 1 of my plain button down tops. Now I am looking through my clothes to wear diffrent clothes. I can't wait to get into a smaller size so I shop more for new tops. he he he he

I get my eyebrows done every 3 weeks and my daughter says I am addicted to it. LOL

I'm six weeks out. I've whitened my teeth, highlighted my hair, shaved my legs, enjoyed clothes more, worn more jewelry, worn makeup more consistently. You feel better about yourself and you Celebrate it :)

Good for all of you.

I have bought a few new clothes, makeup, shoes..oh yeah shoes. Heels too. I never liked them because of feeling off balance. My hair has not changed but I always did bleach my hair since I was 18. I put makeup on most every day. I don't work so that is different for me. I wear my (casual) heels around the house to do housework in. No kidding! I feel so good about myself that I look in the mirrors now with pride and real joy.

I have really lost enough weight that my underwear is smaller and bras are too. (Larger cup but smaller circumference.) I feel more like participating in life to every extent possible. I am 58 Yo and feel like I have taken off 20 years at least. (Maybe 30) I am so very happy with my band.

NSV are getting so numerous that the scale is less important to me than the other victories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
