hungry too soon

I would like to hear more about how people feel after plication, I just don't find enough on here. First, let me say i have no regrets. I LOVE that I get full really quick. I love that I can eat anything I want, nothing gets stuck. I love that i "fit in" at social events, meaning, I can eat what is served, just a small amount of it. (with the band I couldn't eat meat or bread or fresh veggies, which made social and business meals difficult) But, I seem to get hungry about every 3 hours. I know I can lose weight with this tool, BUT, it will take some serious work on my part. I have to really prepare, and have a healthy option readily available after 3 hours, or I find that I grab whatever I can get at work, (which is never something healthy) I guess my hope was that I could eat 3 healthy meals a day and stay full in between. I'm not drinking with meals, not eating slider foods. Christmas was tough, I'm afraid to even get on the scale. I would sure like to hear how others do in between meals,,, do you get REALLY hungry? I just hope its a healing thing yet, and someday soon I can stay full longer than 3 hours.

I haven't been sleeved yet but I'm curious... if you had a low sodium V-8 available, would that help to fill you between meals? It's portable in your purse. In fact, I keep a supply in my drawer at work for when I'm hungry. Are there any Protein bars you like that you could carry with you? I'm assuming you couldn't eat much more than 3/4 of most bars before feeling full.

Hi I am still in mushie stage but I get hungry every few hrs. I talked to nurse and they said that in the beginning that is good because stomach is small and still healing. I can tell that it would be easy to snack all day and not loose weight. However I am determined to make sure I don't let myself get out of hand. Atleast I have a smaller stopping point than 2 large platefulls of food. When I get hungry I try a few bites of fat free cottage cheese or a yogurt drink.

Hi Karen congrats on your surgery and new beginning! Also thank you for sharing your concerns and thoughts.

I am new to this forum and I am really interested in this surgery and love that I can learn from people who have actually had the procedure and how they are doing.

Can I ask who did your surgery and how you did right after, like drinking fluids, when you could eat foods such as applesauce/soft foods?

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Thanks a bunch,

Tracy

Thanks Tracy! Sorry I didn't see this post sooner! I had my surgery with Dr Watkins, he and his staff are great. I did fine right after, no problem with fluids. I ate applesauce in just a few days, and gradually moved to eating more, it really was an easy transition. I had discomfort, but never any pain. Good luck!!

Also remember that it may not be hunger but acid...make sure you are taking a PPI (prevacid, nexium) to make sure you are not having excess acid....I found that early on I thought I was hungry and once I started taking a PPI it took care of the "hunger" growls...

Hi Karen, I had my surgery in August and still get hungry every three hours as well. That's the only part about the plication I don't like. Other than that, I'm very happy I did this. The hunger is nothing like before. I'm down 42 pounds with 18 to go. It's been slow going for me because of the hunger, but it's a lot easier than without this tool. I can have something small, like a cheese stick, and it helps in between meals. I never had any vomiting, pain, or slimes and have been able to eat whatever I want. I'm happy to say that this was the answer for me. Dr. Watkins' office still checks in on me to see how I'm doing. They really want us to be successful. Joanie

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
