Post-op checkups after Mexico surgery

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done in Mexico a few weeks ago and everything is feeling fine so far.

I'm just wondering if other people who had their surgery done in Mexico end up getting everything checked out back home some time? Would it be a good idea to visit a Doc and get a general check up or would it just be a waste?

I saw my GP 1.5 weeks post surgery. I thought I maybe had an infected port, which he took a look at and says was fine - which it was! rolleyes.gif

If it puts your mind at rest then why not? At least you'll get to inform them of what you've had done and I showed mine the letter my surgeon had written.

I had my sleeve revision done by Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. My PCP knows all about it and she is very open to helping me along post op. She did a panel for me, which everything looked great and wants me to come in every few months to weigh in.

However, I am still going to get the big check ups with Dr. Aceves. I am going to see him on January 8th for an upper GI to see how everything is going in there.

It doesn't hurt to talk to your regular Dr. though, and it really should be advisable. They should know everything about your medical history. HTH!

I wonder how much it would cost for another leak test from my general doc - just to put my mind at ease. I'm not usually one to visit the doc unless I have a problem.

If you're a few weeks out, the concern for a leak is minimal, but it would be the radiology fees that would be expensive for a leak test considering most are performed with a CT scan or fluoroscopy shot with contrast Fluid.

Labs should be pulled at least every year,(I had mine pulled 3,6,9,12, and just recently 18 months out) and should include all your chemistry (typically a chem 20), CBB with diff, T4 TSH and parathyroid, Vit B, B12, E, D, D3, and folic acid. Copper, zinc and selenium are also recommended, but most regular PCP/Ms don't pull those unless we ask them to do so. Vitamin deficiencies can occur with VSG so to have levels checked periodically is highly recommended. We're especially prone to Iron and b12 deficiencies.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
