Gas issues after sleeve....

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if it is normal to get severe gas pains 8weeks out after surgery? Yesterday the hubby took me for a drive and we were in the car for about 3 and a half hours then stopped to eat and drove another hour and a half home. On the way home I got this pain that started in my stomach and went to my back, shoulder and chest, It was so intense I screamed the whole way home! It felt like the pain I had after surgery which was Gas ! Is this a common issue and what causes it? Cause I sure dont want to repeat last night again!!

No, gas pain that far after surgery is not usual. Any pain that makes you "scream all the way home" is not normal. Call your doctor.

I'm 18 months out, and I still get shooting gas pains if I eat a big meal, or a heavy fat meal. So, gas can happen anytime, and if it passed as gas then I wouldn't see the concern.

I ate duck a la orange on my birthday, and "KATY BAR THE DOOR" for about an hour after I ate. I was able to walk it off before we got to the bar, and was fine for the remainder of the night.

Did you try some new foods, or eat something you haven't had in awhile? ? ?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
