Did you have to wait for revision after band removal?

Recommended Posts

I am just curious how many people had to wait to have their VSG revision done during a second operation. I am worried that once the surgeon gets "in there" it will be an "ut oh" situation where I will have to have revision done at a later time. I am self pay... so that would really not bode well.

I had my band for 4 years and my Doctor did my revision in one surgery. It wasn't easy on me, but I am glad now that I didn't have to go thru it again. I am also self pay.

Good luck,

Jeri

Here's what I had done in one surgery: band removed, VSG, gall bladder removed, adhesions removed, hiatal hernia repaired. So it CAN be done.

I had my lapband removed, hernia repaired, and the sleeve done all at once. I think what you need to do is really question your doctor. An experienced revision specialist should be able to do it all at once. I had a pretty bad lapband with every complication there could be and they still were able to do it at one time. Good luck! I wish the best for you. I feel 100% better after getting my band out!

Thanks for the replies... my current surgeon has not done any LapBand to VSG revisions. He has done several revision surgeries, just not that one in particular. I have contemplated going to Dr Aceves... but am still researching. I have an upper GI scheduled on the 31st. MY surgeon and I will discus it more once the results come in.

I am going to have the band removed, gall bladder and sleeve all in the same surgery. Out of curiosity, how long did it take to do your surgery?

I don't really remember since I was asleep (ha!), but my hubby said the actual surgery took about an hour.

good. I had fears of 4 or 5 hours. I just don't want to be asleep under anesthesia that long. Happy New Year!

Please make sure you ask your doctor lots of questions. The revision from the lapband to the sleeve is one of the most risky for leaks. In my research, unexperienced doctors sometimes would take the band out and then have the patient have a second surgery for the sleeve. I just want the best for you. I was so thankful to have my revision done at once. One recovery is way better than two. Good luck and let me know if I can help you in any way!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
