My surgery is almost 48 hours away....feeling a bit of anxiety...what is the #1 thing you could tell me about your hospital stay to help me be prepared for what to expect the first 2 days after surgery? No need to sugar coat anything...I want/need to hear the truth :)

Hey you two,

First off congratulations... Next, don't panic have a positive attitude and do whatever they tell you to do. I am six days post-op (sleeved Dec. 20th) I was walking around the first night and continued to walk as much as I could-it helped me go to the bathroom and it cleared gas. I was religious about doing my breathing exercises with my volometer (hospital will give you one). It cleared all the Fluid in my lungs and also brought down the chances of having infections etc. I have been off pain meds since waking up day five but have only been taking about half of what i was supposed to right after i was released. My type II diabetes is gone-I stopped checking blood two days ago-it's pretty much resolved. I have been eating very slowly, so I don't feel a lot of pain or discomfort from being too full. I am not hungry which is a miracle, but I am totally sick of liquids-can't wait to at least move into mushies. I feel great don't have any other complaints and know the weight is pouring off me right now-it's incredible. I feel the hope of having freedom from limitations.

It's going to be great for you to-please check in after surgery.

Hospital stay was 2 days. Arrived at 5am and was ready for surgery at 7:30am. I was not nervious. In OR at 7:30am and back in my room at 10:15am. Was in recovery for about an hour, No hernia, no liver biopsy, and surgery was done laproscopically. This makes a big difference in recovery, I was thirsty and sleepy afterward. Pain was minimal. I was awake when I got to my room. Spoke quite a bit with hubby, but dozed off on him throughout the day, I was walking around by 1pm. Important to do the breathing exercise. Helps your lungs so much. Biggest problem I had at hospital was all the "care" you receive. Is it really necessary lab to come at 3:30am to take blood? I dont usually bruise when blood is taken out, but they left me black and blue. Was given injections of blood thinners each day, and for nausea each time I asked, My surgeon admitted that his Sleeve patients tended to experience more nausea, but I think everything is relative, I was not groggy or hazy, I remember everything pretty well. I took books, music and lap top. No WIFI so laptop was out, books were too much of a hassel as the nursing staff was constantly in my room asking me to move to check insicions, walk, drink..ect. I watched TV most of the time.

One thing I did do to help in my personal recovery was to take my makeup. I woke up the day after surgery and put on my lipstick, blush and all the other necessities and felt much better. My husband was pleased when he came to my room. I took my own nightgown and robe, Again, just made me "feel" like I was in better control then did. Best wishes for each of you this week. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Don't be nervous. The staff at my hospital was wonderful. I don't remember moving to my room and I dozed off and on for a few hours but after that, I was up working the halls every hour which helped tremendously for gas. They gave me pain meds in my iv every 4 hours and nausea medication along with a acid reducer in my iv. I had no complications, I was in some pain as I moved from the bed to get around but hey we did just have major stomach surgery. I was home the next day 11:30 with a stop at Walmart to walk some more-(it was cold outside) and to fill a prescription. sleep in the hospital was non existant and I took a nap when I got home. They called twice in the following week after I got home to check on me. I did have a hiatal hernia and a liver biospy but all is well now and I am no longer diabetic and am down almost 30 lbs since surgery on Dec 1st. This was the best decision I ever made and today I had to buy new pajamas in size XL.....not 2X or 3X. What a great feeling. Keep us posted on how you do.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
