I am scheduled for my Gastric Plication Surgery with Dr.Jose Rodriguez in TJ on Feb. 10, 2011! I haven't decided how I will chronical this journey, but I know I want to. I am starting now getting essential items like Vitamins, pain meds, and other recommended items. I know this has been asked dozens of times, but if you have any recommendations for what to get- please let me know.

What could you not live without?

What are the Dos and Don'ts?

The Must-Haves? Got it and Love 'ems?

I am thinking about putting this information in ONE spot on my blog. Let me know what you guys thinks.

Anna,

Congrats on your decision! Dr. Rod was my first choice as well, until

my insurance company decided to pay for my band removal/replacement.

I haven't had the plication yet but since I've had the band, the

most important appliance for me was the blender, although this was

before the magic bullet came out. I used my blender daily to make

Protein shakes and then I used it for Soups and to blend thicker things

like chili (in the beginning). I take 2 children's Vitamins daily and 2

Iron pills because of anemia. I also recommend taking chapstick to

the hospital with you, your own robe and slippers. You may want to

take your own pillow to help with tummy pains if you have to fly or

drive a long way home. Good luck to you!

Hey Anna congrats. Lip balm was very handy for the first couple of days. For hospital you need slippers and a gown - I didn't even get to use the new nighties I bought as I just used the hospital gown. Once you can wear a bra again you want one with the skinniest strap between the cups as they do a high incision and you won't be able to wear bra with a wide strap across there as it'll get the incision.

I was so tired after surgery I didn't even read the magazines I took with me! I found Yoplait yogurt drink really handy once I was allowed full liquids (you're meant to wait a week, but I started having it from day 5). You can just take a few sips and then put the lid back on it and pop it in your bag for when you want some more sips.

I look forward to checking out your blog and seeing how you get on! wink.gif

Oh and flight socks are good. They like you to wear their compression stockings which I did while I was in hospital, but I went over to wearing my flight socks when I left (they're paranoid about DVT). Flight socks are waaay more comfortable and easier to get on than those nasty compression stockings!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
