Suddenly having pains 4 months post-op

Recommended Posts

I had a revision almost 4 months ago to the day (August 26, 2010). All is okay at this point, until today.

Tonight I decided to finish my Christmas Shopping and was in the Toy Dept. at my local Target. Suddenly I began to experience pain in the same area where my port was located prior to my surgery. It feels like someone has a knife in my incision and twists it occasionally. I think it's just nerves growing back but don't recall having such a pain after having my two c-sections in fact almost 2 years post op from my last c-section most of my incision is still numb.

So with all that, anyone have incision area pain 4 months post-op?

I had it Carrie, and it was adhesions pulling on my muscles and fat. I had hoards of scar tissue around my port, and had a lot of adhesions due to the leak repair, and drains being placed on 2 different occasions.

It only happened occasional, and it was the same sharp, shooting pain that you are describing. I had all the adhesions/scar tissue taken down during my gallbladder surgery at 8 months post-VSG and since then have had minimal pain. I have sensitivity at my port area if I hit it just right even this far out.

I figured that between the original surgery, having fil and unfills constantly and my port moving around in there for 5 years I would have issues with that area if I had issues with pain at all.

So far today no pain. I will probably try some heat on it next time. Did you find any Miracle cure?

Merry Christmas!

My only cure is not bumping into things. My surgeon took down a lot of my scar tissue and adhesions during my gallbladder surgery, but I still have a knot underneath my skin where my port was.

I figure it'll be this way for life, and hopefully when I have plastics, they'll be able to take more of the scar tissue.

Actually its funny you mention this, because for the last week or so I've been feeling sharp pains in my EX-port area too. It's a little scary because that is how it would be painful when my port was still there. I hated it, and it was one of the many reasons I hated my band and couldn't wait to have the darn thing taken out. However with the band it was constant and super annoying. This is only very random, few and far between - so it's livable.

I hope it goes away, for both our sakes!!

A friend of mine with adhesion said she took a wooden rolling pin and rolled it over the area twice a day and that it helped tremendously. She was told to do this by a PT friend. It might be worth the try.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
