OMG It's been 2 almost 3 days now, and the pain is still present. Not to mention the never ending pain in my throat. Apparently I had a hole in my esophagus that the doctor repaired while in surgery. The gas is passing, but it seems like everytime I sip something the gas is back. I wore a bra all day yesterday and the pain was unbearable, so I went without it today, and the pain is twice as bad. I get that I am going to feel like crap for a little while, but come on with a Christmas Miracle already. Sorry Just have to get some of my frustration out before I get around family tomorrow. I swore to hubby that I wouldn't whine and complain so I am trying to keep it out of earshot. Ouch Ouch Ouch!!!

I was taking my pain meds until Tuesday, so eight days out. My surgery was on Monday Dec 13th. I had a lot of pain and discomfort on the 2-4 days. It slowly got better to where I was only taking the pain meds to help me get comfortable enough to sleep. Now if I have a little ache I take tylenol. Walking for me helped the most, especially to rid the gas. Hang in there. By next week you won't even remember all the pain! Oh and have you tried some herbal tea...maybe that will help your throat?

I'm so sorry. I had the same thing. I was sleeved on 12/7. I thought the 3rd and 4th day were the worst. I took my pain meds for a good week and slept alot just so I didn't have to feel the pain. I was shocked at how much the procedure hurt. For me, it took a good 2 wks to feel normal.

Everyone is different. Hopefully, you will feel a little better before tomorrow. Just don't over do it. The more you do the worse you might feel the next day. Remember, you did just have surgery. Let people wait on you and take it easy.

Merry Christmas Eve!

And one more thing....the gas took about a week to leave my body. But, you will feel gassy when you drink your Water or Protein Drinks. You will also feel bloated because there is swelling from the surgery. The swelling has taken about 2 wks to subside for me. Hang in there. It's just been 3 days.

It will get better. You need to stay on pain meds and try to get them in before the pain takes hold. They work better that way. I had my surgery on a Monday and Friday night was the last time I took pain meds, and I did not have the esophagus repair that you had, though.. Try not to rush it. You are still brand new. You will get a little better each day and soon it will just be a memory. Hang in there.

Each day gets better! Keep ahead of your pain with you meds! Meaning take it on time,, when you get control of the pain the brian gets a chance to reset and the pain meds works better.

It does get better. I hated going without a bra post-op. So I purchased a soft cup, front closure sports bra in a size bigger than I needed. BEST investment EVER. It gave light support without me having to reach around to snap it, or pull it over my head.

The first 2 weeks are the most miserable. Hang in there, it gets better ! ! !

Hope you feel better soon.

I'm 4 days post op. Today was my first day wearing a bra. It doesn't hurt as bad as I thought it would!

I use a heating pad A LOT . It's like my best friend. It helped me fall asleep yesterday.

Try that if you haven't yesterday.

Thanks to all for the thoughts and suggestions.. I have been using a heating pad, and was actually able to sleep from 11 last night to 5 this morning without feeling any pain. Woke up to go to the restroom and had to take some gas-x for the gas/bloating. Also I have found that Ice Cold Water helps with the pain I am feeling in my throat. Christmas Eve tonight with hubby's family, and I am happy to announce I really don't feel to bad at the moment. I have stuck to a pretty tight schedule with my meds, and even cut back to 1 pill every 4-6 hours instead of 2. I think tomorrow I am going to cut it so that every other dose is tylenol instead of the percoset. I am still sipping everything and was able to actually eat a half a jar of baby banana's and hold it down today. My Protein Shakes are next.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
