First time eating out

Recommended Posts

Well I have official had my first fast food since having surgery and well, it wasn't what I remembered it to be! LOL

We are visiting family for Christmas and here in NE there is a place called Amigos (fast food tacos) and it was always my favorite place to eat (esp. after being out drinking all night!! LOL) So I said I was going to try it! We ordered 1 soft taco, a crisp meat burrito (fried meat/cheese burrito) and chips and cheese (also has enchladal sause) for the three of us!! (before I could eat all of this MYSELF) So I had a bite of the taco (small bite) and two chips and 3 decent bites of the burrito and UGH FULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was good but it really wasn't what I remembered it to be and I do LOVE that because now I know I won't be craving it again!!! YAY!!!!

Yup isn't it interesting how that works now? I actually don't really enjoy food that much anymore either. . when we go out I can't really see myself go to the buffet restaraunts cause that is a total waste of money, we go to the sit down places instead and when i order, i just ask for a take out box at the same time. . . then i chew on the leftovers for a couple of days. . ugh. . it's really not worth it. . .

My tastes for my old timey favorites are all but lost. I can't stand McDonald's cheeseburgers and mcnuggets anymore, and pre-op, I'd slam down 2 of those double cheeseburgers easily. Taco bell still has me with their bean burrito, no onion, but I can only eat 1/3 of it. I don't even like Papa Johns or pizza Hut pizza anymore. I do still enjoy most "sit down" restaurant meals. Those little southwest eggrolls from Chili's are my favorite. I just peel off most of the tortilla shell and eat the insides.

I think it's crazy how much things have changed. A lot of it has to do with the sheer fact that I can eat such a small portion, that small amount of food better taste divine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
