2 week liquid diet

Recommended Posts

My Surgeon requires 2 full weeks of strict liquid diet prior to the Sleeve Surgery Date. I understand that a prep is needed, but two weeks?? Just wondered if any of you had that same requirement or if it was different??

M'dear, you are getting off easy! :)

My surgeon requires 5 Protein shakes a day plus only Clear liquids for 12 days, then only Clear Liquids for the last two days before surgery.

It really isn't as bad as it seems. If you have your mind made up that this is what you want mor than anything and you're going to do it, it's not that bad. I honestly haven't been hungry at all, and my surgery is Monday the 27th.

Just keep your eyes on the prize, my friend! It's a gift, so take it for all it's worth!

Wow! My doctor put me on a 1200 calorie per day meal plan but left the decision how I would accomplish that task up to me. In 2 and a 1/2 weeks I lost 8 pounds. I just have to keep it going.

I did two weeks of a semi-liquid diet, and it was tough at first, but you settle into the routine of it. My diet was 2 shakes, and then 1 meal of about 5 oz Protein & veggies. I stockpiled the veggies like it was WWII! That got me through it. Also, as Deb said to me, think about there being a problem with your liver during surgery, and that will keep you on the straight and narrow. One piece of advice, try not to plan to much social eating during this period because that can be a little tough!

You are definitely getting off easy. My surgeon has me on a 900 calorie shake/bar diet to lose 10 percent of my body weight for 6 weeks BEFORE my two week liquid-only pre-op diet. I haven't seen anyone else on here with such a strict surgeon! I am losing almost a pound a day though so I guess I can't complain. It is very difficult to eat like this over the holidays, but I am hanging in there.

Good luck to you... if I can do it, anyone can!

All I had to do was low carb/high Protein for a week before both my band and my revision surgery. As you can see by my ticker, I had a high BMI, but the main concern is shrinking the fatty deposits on the liver so it's easier to move it out of the way to get to your stomach. The liver won't actually shrink with the liquids vs. low carb, it's just going to shrink the slippery, slimy fat on the outside. Fatty livers take months to actually shrink, but follow your surgeon's guidelines.

I think the pre-op liquid diets are pure torture, and honestly, just mean LOL. I'm truly grateful that neither of my surgeons believe the liquid diet will give any different results than the low carb diet.

The night before surgery I was told to enjoy a "last supper" type of meal, and I did it without any reservations.

I switched surgeons late in the game but my first surgeon had 1 day of Clear Liquids and a colyte cleanse the night before (OMG SCARY!!!) and then my current surgeon has a 3 day clear liquid diet. I did crack and eat 1 popcorn kernel at the movies. Literally 1. Hoping it digests in time for surgery on Tuesday at 4pm : )

I personally don't see why they'd make you do it for 2 wks as my surgeon explaine that he just wants it for 3 days to make sure the stomach is empty prior to surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
