HELP! My doctor suggests I wait 1 hour before and 2 hours after meals before I start drinking my liquids again. I can't do that and still get my 64oz in. Not even close. So my question is why are we supposed to wait. My doc said something about staying full longer? I only eat 3 meals a day no snacking Protein first/only. It is about 5 bites and I am good. So if that is the only reason wouldn't it be better to drink more for fear of dehydration? Please give me some feedback/ suggestions I really need it. Oh ya down 23 lbs in 4 weeks.

Thanks Hanna

Hiya Hanna,

After food I wait for about 30 mins... it does help you stay fuller for longer, but on the rare occasion that I have had a drink straight after, it didn't sit well and made me feel a lil sick. I find 30 mins enough time for the food to settle.

As far as before goes, again I try to wait 30 mins, but to be honest, I sometimes forget!

You are right though, to wait 1-2 hours would make it hard work to get all the fluids in per day! I too am on a 3 meal a day with no snacking plan.

stop drinking 10 minutes before eating and wait for 30 min after. The liquid will 'liquefy' the food you just ate and process it quicker, meaning it would spend less time in your stomach digesting ultimately leaving you hungry again.

There's a video on youtube about the whole theory. it's demonstrated by a cup of applesauce. Pretty interesting.

No other doctor say 2 hours after a meal. Some say one hour, some say 45 minutes, and a lot say 30 minutes. I will usually take at least a sip.

Honestly? It's not the end of the world to even eat and drink at the same time. I've done it, and... it didn't kill me!

That being said, it will likely give you acid reflux. So... avoid it :)

I drink right up until I take the first bite, then usually wait 30 minutes after a meal. There are some meals that I sip through only because I can at this point. I couldn't sip or drink with a meal without major discomfort. I do sip with meals a lot when we're out eating. I don't "drink" with my meal, it's more like little sips. Since I still don't get hungry, it doesn't change how I "feel" nor do I feel hungry any sooner.

I drink right up until I start eating too... it runs right through, it's not like it's still pooling in there waiting for the food to come. But afterwards? Uh-uh... can't do it. I usually have to wait at least an hour, and sometimes that's pushing it (depending on what I've eaten, too)... there's just no room and it feels like the liquid just wants to come right back out...blech.

I drink until I take my first bite. If I drink while I'm eating it makes me feel sick. I wait about 30 minutes after to drink again.

My group states 30 before and 30 after. I do sip Water while I am eating if something feels like it's not settling well. Yes, it will sometimes give me reflux. It's a hard habit to break when pre-surgery I drank before/during/after meals.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
