2 Periods in 3 Weeks!

Recommended Posts

Okay Ladies,

I am freaking out slightly. Today is my 3 week surgerversary. About 3 days post-op, I started my period. It wasn't fun, but what could I do? It lasted about 5 days.

On yesterday, I started feeling cramps in my stomach, only to go to the bathroom and see that I was bleeding again! It has not been 20 days, let alone 28 days.

Today, I am passing huge blood clots. I have been to the bathroom at least 6 times in the past hour because I can feel them trying to pass.

My periods were very irregular pre-surgery. Should I be concerned or is this just my body responding to the weight loss?

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to whacked-out hormoneland. :D

This happens to a lot of gals... hormones are stored it our fat, and when we start losing a lot of fat quickly, it also releases a lot of hormones quickly into our systems, throwing everything off. Down the road when you start slowing down and getting closer to goal, it should regulate better, but as long as you're losing steadily and quickly, this can happen! Watch out for major mood swings as well... this can make you feel like you're PMSing constantly too!

Ditto to what Stacy wrote. My period was totally off for the first 6 months, and I threw huge clots too. I think it's a lot of the anesthesia, the heparin/lovenox they give us, plus the insane hormone surge from the rapid weight loss. I promise it does get better. The first couple of months are the most irregular. By the 4 month mark, my periods were lighter, and less crampy. Now, at 18 months out, I'm not 100% regular, my PMS is more intense, I cramp a little more, but my periods are super light except for the first day.

The mood swings were killer for me and my family for the first 6 months as well. I was a raging witch on the verge of psychotic breakdowns early out, but it was temporary.

Definitely my PMS is worse since surgery. My periods were heavy and more frequent. My periods now are more normal I guess - no clotting at all. But the PMS is such a bitch. It is like by the time I start my period I've already cramped, been a bitch for several days, bloated and come down from that, etc. Then after all that is DONE I'll start my period and it is just sort of flows for a 2-3 days but no cramping, no bitchiness, etc.

I guess I never really had PRE MS before, it was cramping and bitchiness during my period. Now it alllll happens before my period. Lovely.

Did anyone resume the bc pill after surgery? Did this help at all with staying regular? My doc says that I can resume taking my pill 3 weeks after surgery. So I have another week to go. I was on my period during surgery and that totally sucked.

Ladies,

I just want to let you know that my period is still here and I am still passing huge blood clots. This is day 6. I think I should call my doctor tomorrow. What I am seeing is really scary! I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the encouragement and words of wisdom.

I've had blood for the last seven weeks. I did go to my OB and he did extensive testing. I then went to my Bari Dr. and he assured me that this is normal. Results from OB were regular and not cancer he did put me on hormone which the Bari Dr. cleared. I have PCOS so it was very concerning for me as well. Hormones and surgery = Effed up periods.

My periods have been heavier, longer, more painful and more frequent since surgery. I have to double up on the Iron during those heavy flow days. I'm about six months post-op and still dropping weight pretty steadily. I sure hope it gets better soon or that I go through medopause soon...lol :P Hang in there!

I have PCOS and periods have always been problematic. I would get blood clots, seriously long periods (7 weeks of bleeding) or no periods at all. I once went to the hospital emergency room thinking I had a kidney infection only to find out I was trying to pass a blood clot the size of a baseball and that was the cause of the pain. I worked with the doctors to try to regulate the hormones and my periods and finally decided on the Mirena. I have had the Mirena for 3 years now and have been virtually period free since. Post surgery, I have been getting my period every 2/3 weeks. I was assured this was normal but I am still waiting for it to slow down, lol

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
