Banded Duos?

Recommended Posts

I've read a couple of posts where couples both have been banded, and after my surgery DH and I will both be banded.(he's had his for almost 2 years) I'm curious about the good and bad of both having a band?

Overall, I think it will be really helpful for us both. As far as understanding what we're going through, food choices and all. Not to mention once I lose some weight I can keep up with him better!

The wife and I were banded the same day, one right after the other.

It makes it very easy as we both eat the same things. We are going back to Monterrey the 26th for our first fill.

I have lost 20 lb's and 4 inches in my waist. I also am down in the shirt department. I wore xx and sometimes xxx shirts and now I wear large.

The wife won't weigh but the old gal is sure looking good.;)

My husband and I were banded 2 weeks apart. He hasn't lost as much as I have, although the doctor warned me that men lose faster than women. I think it's because I have been an A/B patient and he has been a C- patient....LOL

Are there any other "Banded Duos" out there lurking?

I was banded 15 Feb 07 and DW was in Oct 06.

I'm doing pretty well and am in that 1st 10 day loss period. She's getting a little frustrated cause my loss has passed her initial loss, but she honestly understands why... I was a BAD BOY just before my pre-op diet started. I got a lot of wild eating out of the way really just for the shear decadence of it.. lol So it was easy to lose that balloon weight...

Anywho, I was hoping to restart the thread and see how other couples were doing out there.. I'm really optimistic about it since we really now know what each other are going through.

Mike

I was banded last week, and my husband is in the 6 month process now. He is doing it along with a co-worker.

The only problem with him following me, is that he and his co-worker are watching any problems I have and are worrying that the same things could happen to them!~

Hey Lee..

They should be excited to watch you lead.. Sure there are some issues, but heck, some short term pain now is far better than ending up with a heart bypass due to weight issues... Carpe Diem should be their rally cry!

Hey Mike, You sure are right about that! And that is what we were facing if we kept at this pace. My BMI was 31.5 right before surgery, so I was worried I might not pass, but I did. Hubby is about your height; 6'2", and was facing a few more health issues, so I don't want to scare him off, with any probems I have!

He knows that everyone reacts differently to surgeries, but he has been watching me waging war the past few days with terrible pains in my left ribs radiating into the shoulder. I was hoping to stay off the pain meds, but oh well, this too shall pass!

Oh yeah, and the constant hunger! I hope I can get over that eventually.

Good luck to you, I saw that you had your surgery the day after mine, and are already back to work! My job is very physical, and I could not imagine even trying to work yet.

Well he has to know it's not "quick, simple, or easy", but it is worth it, at least at this point.. lol... We'll see in a year, but I doubt my attitude will change. I want my next 20 years to be better than my previous, and it wasn't heading that way.

The gas pains can be tough, I had some pretty tough ones the first couple of days while I was on pain meds, but by day 3 I was able to drop back to liquid tylenol, and then nothing. Are you moving around enough? I've read that you need to "walk them out". OH.. almost forgot.. heating pad.. Amy found that a heating pad behind the right shoulder on medium would really help, she set that up for me, and YES MA'AM!

The constant hunger surprises me.. For the first several days I felt not only not hungry, I felt like I had a huge lump in my throat.. I did "eat", if that's what you call Atkins shakes and Apple juice, but real "hunger" was not an issue.

Good luck to you, I saw that you had your surgery the day after mine, and are already back to work! My job is very physical, and I could not imagine even trying to work yet.
Thanks and best of luck on your recovery! We'll rock this thing!

My work is desk jockey stuff, which honestly I could work from home, but the project manager I am "working for" is an ex-marine, so I only worked from home on Monday, and now pretty much just sit, type, talk, and drink 3 Atkin's shakes.. weeeeee

With a physical job, no freaking way.. I'd still be out of work, but restless at home.

Get your hubby on the guys thread so we can talk some sense into him... ;-)

Hi there, stacy here. My husband and I are going to Mexicalli on March 22nd. I am really excited. The only thing I worry about is any little thing that happens my husband is going to look to me for the answer. Which will probably get on my nerves. So It will definetly be a journy together. lol.

By the way what does DH stand for when talking about the husband?

l.

By the way what does DH stand for when talking about the husband?

Well, that kind of depends. :heh: Usually it's "dear" or "darling". It can be "danged" or whatever word fits at the time.

I'm glad to see a few more banded duos! Right now, DH is struggling. He had been too tight, and ended up with a dialated esphogus. So he was unfilled, and we're going in today to get him checked and see if he's healed. It's frustrating for me, now that I've lived with my band for a while, to see him do things I know aren't good for him or his weight loss. Anyone else finding this, and how do you offer support without becoming a nag? I don't want to be his mother, but I want him to feel better.

I was banded in October 2006 and my wife has been wanting to get the band now that she see's my progress. Her problem is that her BMI is 37 and her insurance company needs a 40 or better to approve. She is thinking about gaining in order to meet the BMI of 40 but that concerns me.

I was banded in Sept and my wife wants to get banded badly but we also want to have another baby. Everything we've heard is that she should wait until after we have another(the last) to get banded.

does anyone have any advice on that?

As of yesterday, we can join this group! I was banded 1/31/07, my wife 2/22/07. She's at home recovering today. Her best friend is spending the day with her. I told her that she's probably not going to be very good company....

My DH and I were both banded on the same day, July 11, 2006. Currently, he is down 83 lbs and I am down 40. He wanted to lose 168 (402- 230) I wanted to lose 70 (196-126 or so).

We are doing great, I think!:clap2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
