who set your goals?

Recommended Posts

This may seem like a silly question, but here it goes.......... Everyone has weights listed ... before band/now/goal. (I think thats how it is) Did everyone pick their personal goal? or did the Doctor. And also, do I need a different Dr. to do fills or will that be the surgeon? Thanks for any/all answers:cry

I set my goal, the staff at the clinic agreed it was reasonable. The charts say for my height my weight should be 120, but that ain't happening! So I picked 150 as comfortable, doable and healthy. Once I get close I can decide on a final number.

As for the fills, policies seem to vary by surgeon, so you'll have to ask them.

I set my own goals.

My original goal was 144, exactly 100 lbs. down from on the day I was banded. I knew it was unrealistic so I changed it to 157 soon after. I must add it gets harder to lose when your close to goal.

same here. i picked a number i remember feeling good at and the doc agreed that it would give me a bmi in my range and be reasonable.

I am pre op, but my goal weight is based on experience. I am sure my doc or some height/weight sheet would put me lower. But I am not after a bikini body, I am after a healthy weight that I know I can maintain.

I picked my own goals, but my doctor agreed that the goal I picked was within reason. My doc told me I may never get back to the 110's, or even 100's. but I could easily do 120's.

I used two factors to choose my goal:

1) I know I feel good at my goal weight

2) My doctor says that a band will normally help you lose 75% of excess weight.

Of course EVERY person on this board would like to be thin and not at all past their "normal" weight range, but I think it is healthy to not have a goal that you most likely won't reach. If I go lower than my goal, then I will be thrilled.

My dream weight is a whole 'nother story.

I set my goals and my goal weight is within my healthy range for my height but will still be far from skinny. It is my starter goal, I reserve the right to adjust it at anytime as I see fit. Due to back issues, I would like to lose as much as possible. People with chronic back issues should consider going a little underweight (and I do mean a little not a lot) it can make a huge difference in your pain level. However, I don't know that I will be able to get past 140 which is my official low on the height weight charts. I know I can weigh 140 and still have a little flab, although now I have more muscle than I did in high school, so we'll see. My old 140 might be more like 150 or even 160 now. This is why I am flexible.

My doctor/nurse and dietician have all agreed on 194lbs (88kg) being my goal/target weight but I would prefer to be a little lower 180lbs (81kg).

I think I'll wait until I get to 194lbs before I decide. (at the moment ANYTHING under 200lbs looks good to me!)

My Primary Care Doctor said according to my height and what my bmi should be that me goal should be between 130 and 140. Sounded good to me.

I picked my goal and my surgeon agreed that it was attainable. As far as fills are concerned, the nurse practitioner at my surgeon's office does them all.

I pulled my goal number right out of my butt. Or right out of my dreams. OR right out of my dreams about my butt.

I DID (after the fact) look at the BMI chart, and discovered that my goal number is squarely in the middle of the "normal" range. My question is: What's NORMAL anyway? Says WHO?

I have issues with authority - clearly. :-)

My doc has never even mentioned it to me. Healthy weight range or just above i guess is what he'd be thinking, but specifics are my business.

I doubt he'd give me more fill once I was near the healthy weight range though.

I've apparently lost about 66# of the approximately 75-80# goal my original band surgeon set for me. He made it clear in January when I'd lost 55 -57# that he thought I probably wouldn't lose any more towards even his lower-end goal (my BMI stalled at 30 for a few months) so I switched fill doctors to someone who thinks I can do more.

I need to lose 14# more to get to my original surgeon's goal, but he underestimates me. I think actually losing another at least 20# -more would make me look like a SuperStar. If my body would allow me to lose at least 20# or more, I'd be thrilled. So my new fill doctor thinks I might be able to get to that. I'm at a BMI of about 28.9-29 now but if lose another 14 I'd be down to BMI 26+.

Happy Band (And Life) Journeys To All...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
