Insurance Approval!!!! Pre-op Tomorrow

Recommended Posts

I am so doing a happy dance today. Called my insurance company this morning and I am APPROVED! When I asked how long it would take to get this info to my surgeon they said it was almost immediate. Well, not trusting insurance I called my surgeon's office and let them know what I knew. The insurance coordinator said she had not received word but thanks for calling and would I like to come today for my pre-op appointment. As much as I wanted to go today, my kids are home with me and I would have to arrange a sitter so set the appt for tomorrow.

I can hardly believe that once all the paperwork was turned in it only took 48 hours to get approval done. So incredibly excited that on December 27th I will be getting my sleeve. WOOOHOOO!

GREAT news!!!!!! What insurance company was that?

United Healthcare PPO plan. We are in Katy, Texas where my hubby works for a large engineering firm.

I am on UHC PPO until 12/31/10, but mine did not cover the surgery. I am switching to UHC HRA as of 1/1/11 and it will cover VSG here in Georgia. I guess insurance is all different.

This is such great news for you "as well as for my hubby" Our insurance as of this moment is Aetna "my surgery is on the 21st" but starting in January we are switching to United Healthcare, but we weren't sure how well they go about covering surgery when weight loss is involved, but reading on here UHC seems to cover more then we were thinking. No matter which plan we have. When do you start your liquid diet? Mine started today for 5 days and then another week-2 weeks after surgery depending on how my body reacts to the reintroduction of food.. LoL I am holding strong and not feeling a bit hungry. Any way CONGRATULATIONS!! It's such a blessing when we recieve news we so want to hear..

Congrats!!!

We also have UHC and I had my sleeve in Oct. and hubby is waiting and waiting and waiting for his approval. Unfortunately the surgeon won't perform surgery after Dec. 20th (he has a family and is entitled to time off for the holidays) but the surgeon's office has been in contact with UHC all week trying to see if they could do the approval so it can happen on the 20th (UHC has had all paperwork since Dec.7th) but if they don't approve by tomorrow we would have to do Jan/Feb next year and hit our $5K ded. again. Ugh.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your post. What I wanted to say is YAY! I'm excited for you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
