Jumpstart Weightloss

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I am trying to rejumpstart my weightloss and am going back on the liquid phase for awhile. I was curious, do you have to get 1000 calories a day to lose weight or if you cut it down a day or two do you get better results? Thoughts opinions anyone?

There is a thread about a Soup diet some people are trying to jump-start their weightloss. I think it's under the food thread entitled "new diet I found". It's similar to the cabbage soup diet and some people are finding success with it. I'm thinking about trying this myself. If you can't find it under that, do a search for "sacred heart diet" and it should come up. I would find it but don't know how to search while still saving my post!

Malice X Girl--

I am a Christian and have fasted w/ Water only for 10days at a time.... it's VERY tough....but I draw closer to the Lord and He strengthens me....but without Him I can't make it a few hours!!!

So yes I think you can go w/ less calories than 1000.....but it sure makes you tired and you can feel weak!!! Just my opinion!!!!!!!!!!!

God Bless,

Melody

Thanks for the info. Melody. I was curious because you hear so many different things about the body going into starvation mode how long does it take to get to that point ect.

You can totally go with zero calories even for a few weeks and be fine, you won't starve, however you may gain when you go back onto food and calories. My aunt has been banded for a year and she regularly eats 700-800 a day and has lost over 80lbs in the first year and is almost to goal (less than 20 to go). It is so different for everyone, and plateaus are so hard to get off of sometimes. My advice for whatever it's worth is to lower your calories by 250 per day and increase you excersise to burn an additional 250 per day (or any combo to equal 500 calories) and you should lose again.

I was told to never go below 1200 calories per day.....with the formula being 8 * your ideal weight: 8 * 150 lbs = 1200 calories. I've been trying the zigzag method and it seems to keep me off of a plateau. http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm#

Doing liquids for a couple of days kicks it off for me - but it is hard when food is all around.

Best of luck in finding what works best for you! :))

I think that each person is different. WhenI am eating too little my body goes into starvation mode, so I have to watch my calories. For me a week on liquids and I stop losing and can actually gain.

800 calories or less is what they gave the p.o.w's in war time most of them went into starvation mode, how can that be good for your heart & how much stress is that putting on it and your body have to fight for Nutrient's.

And the your body has to attack it by eating muscle mass! I could be wrong! but this is only my opion.

I don't think its bad necessarily for you to be below 1000 caories for a few days -- but IMHO its all of the yo-yo dieting we've done over the years that has messed up our metabolisms -- so a low calorie plan for a few days or weeks might trigger gain once you start eating more calories. And of course if you cut out carbs, once you have them you could regain some, but with that said, instead of a liquid diet - have you tried the plateau busting diet? I am sure you have seen it: (I have it saved but haven't tried it yet!)

Dr. Fox' weight loss plateau/stall diet. Heard of it? It's ONLY for 10 days.....We could easily drop 10 pounds doing this...<o =""></o>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
