Hi Cris,

I'm scheduled for July 11th. Waiting for insurance approval. I have been on every forum here. My suggestion would be to check out all of the message boards. They are all extremely informative and helpful. With all the research I have done, I found that everyone has had different experiences.

The nutritionist and the literature I read said that I would find Pasta and white meat chicken intolerable. When I ask bandsters, they all have different experiences. With that said, check out all of the forums. There's one on complications as well.

Good luck.

emily

Hi Cris,

I had my surgery last Tuesday so I am 10 days post op. I was in the hospital overnight but now my doctor does them outpatient. The worst was the anastetic. My throat was really sore from the tube. You are a little sore from the incisions as well, especially the port area. I can sleep on my side now but it was tough for the first 5 days or so. I have no hunger and I'm down 12 lbs. The only thing I have is a "ball" like feeling in my stomach. I don't know if its acid reflux or just the "full" feeling that I'm not use to. I'm on liquids currently. I have a swallow test on Monday to make sure everything is passing through okay. I'm going to ask him again what is the issue with the "ball" feeling at that time. Good luck!

Hi I am scheduled in 5 days!! I have really seen alot of variations in the things that Dr.'s are telling people. The best advise would be do what plan your Dr. tells you.

I love being able to read all the posts, although alot of it has sorta confused me even more. Im sure that differnt things work for different people. I am currantly on a 7 day liquid diet....{to shrink the liver for a easier surgery} Some didnt have to do that and other had to do it longer.

I am going to be all packed and ready to go. Am bringing comfy slippers, robe. Sounds like they want you up and walking around pretty quick after your done. Also, dont know if your a big coffee, pop drinker but i stopped that like 2 weeks ago.

Good luck to you, I feel like Im climbing the walls, So much to thing about and plan for. ONLY 5 more days and Ill be able to tell ya how I did!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
