Annoyed with my body

Recommended Posts

One week post op and I have only lost 4 lbs. I started my period the day of surgery. It was a week early. I wake up this morning and I started my period again today. I am sure this is part of the reason I'm not losing. I keep trying to stay positive about not losing a ton of weight the first week, but it is depressing. I know there are others out there that are in the same boat which helps. Please tell me that I didn't do this for nothing. I dread going back to work and everyone asking how much weight I have lost. Hoping to lose some over the next week to make up for this week. I think my body is pissed off at me right now.

Yeppers, your body is pissed ! ! ! I gained over 30lbs the first week do to FLUIDS. . . So, don't fret, you will lose weight. You still have anesthesia floating around in your body, your hormones have gone haywire, and your body is generally just confused.

When people ask how much weight you've lost you can always say "I'm not sure, but I feel fabulous, and know I'll be looking fabulous once I'm actually over the healing period."

Put the scale away if it's going to do depress you. It's not going to do anything positive so don't punish yourself.

I didn't step on the scale until day 14. I was too afraid of exactly what you are reporting. I knew I would gain a ton from the IV and fluids and I would flip out if I didn't see the loss I wanted. I think you just need to give yourself another week or two before you weigh again. It could take a bit more until your body is willing to let go of the fluids etc.

Before surgery, I swore to myself that I wouldn't weigh myself everyday. That went out the window. I am going to wait until next Wednesday to weigh myself again. Tiffy I am glad to hear you gained weight and look where you are now.

Mp you are right. Patience has never been one of my virtues.

I think you fantasize about this for so long pre op, that no matter what, it is some what of a let down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
