The good thing about being a slow loser

Recommended Posts

Whew! You guys make me feel so normal and really help diffuse the fear of failure that we lifetime yoyo dieters are prone to. I was beginning to get so fearful because I have only lost 20 lbs. in the one month since surgery. I was begining to think "Of course, this sleeve works for everyone but me. I fail again. Thank you so much for starting this forum!

I love this topic! I have been sleeved since 3/15/2012 and I think I'm a slow loser too!

Including pre-op, I've lost 34.5 lbs so far and I am now 7 weeks out. I'm so ok with being a slow loser, because it is allowing my body to catch up with the decision that

my mind made. Also, as I am losing, I'm noticing that my skin elasticity is really good because as I'm shrinking, my skin is snapping back very well and my curves and waist are getting smaller, but they are sticking around giving me and sexy, as my husband calls it, "brickhouse" shape( from the song). Plus, my hormones have never gone crazy, no ups and downs. My doctor tells me I'm doing great, and that he expects me to lose about 2 lbs or so a week. He also said told me not to constantly weigh myself because even when it does not look like I'm losing lbs., I am losing inches and that I need to remember, "a pound is a pound" only muscle is leaner, but denser. So as I work out my body is replacing a lb. of muscle for a pound of fat and the scale my say I've lost nothing or even gained a pound or two, but I'm getting smaller still. I just buy something I want to wear, and I try it on once a week, and as it fits better each week, I know I'm still losing. I am very happy with my progress and my decision! :D

I am so glad this post got bumped! It is along the same timeline as I am right now, and at 4 1/2 months out I am down 54 lbs from day of surgery and almost 70 total... It's slow, but steady, and I track my eating and exercise several times a week... I feel wonderful and am in a size 12 and 3 lbs from Onderland! So thankful for this forum to keep me on track!

Wow, I 'd forgotten about this one... just had a little re-read of some of the posts... and well, in the last 18mths things, for me, haven't changed. I've just checked and since I started this thread I have lost 28lbs... so yea, still a slow loser. I haven't lost a pound since Oct and I think my body has become comfy at this weight, it is just my mind that isn't. The strange thing is that in that time I have dropped several dress sizes... in Dec 10 I was a comfy UK 20 and now I am a comfy UK 14... doesn't make sense but who cares, I seem to be getting smaller even if the scale isn't telling me that I am losing weight!

I have given myself until the end of this year to try and get to my surgeon's weight of 154lb as per my ticker... and perhaps (but unlikely my personal weight of 140-138lb).

I started a 'gonna get to goal wanna join me' thread in the New Year, as I felt sure it was my time to shine... but unfortunately nothing I did (or didn't do) changed those pesky numbers! I think one of the reasons is that I am HRT Patches as I am perimenopausal, although the doc assured me this wouldn't effect my weight loss, I am not so sure.

I realise that I am 'nearly' there... but I would really like to finish the job now!!

Good luck to all the slow losers out there... slow but sure my friends!

Me too, I am am a slow looser. I was sleeved 2 months ago and I have only lost 25 pounds. A little frustrated, but it is 25 less than I was 2 months ago. I lost 25 before surgery, so in total down 50 in 5 months. Right now I am 214, and my goal is 150, 64 more to go. My diet consists mostly of protiens and veggies.

At this point I am able to eat table food. But they say slow and steady wins the race.

Just wanted to add I am another slower loser. I had hoped I would lose all my weight in a year. The only time I lost 10lbs or more in a month was my first month. But I am still losing slowly but surely. It has always been between 1lb and 3lbs a week. Mostly 1lb. Thankfully I haven't had any stalls. And I realize it may take at least another 10-12 months to lose this last 50lbs. (1lb a week).

I can definitely tell that I will be a slow loser. The bright side of that is that since my weight will be coming off slowly, it may give my skin some time to "bounce back".

I really enjoyed reading this thread. While it was started a couple of years ago, it truly applies to me and I am sure several others folks on VST.

I am hoping I don't lose hair since I am a slower loser.

Just thought I'd chip in on the end here... I started the thread in an attempt to help folk who, like I, didn't lose in double quick time.

Two and a half years later, my weight loss is 74 lb and I am easily maintaining that. That equates to 90% success as per my surgeon and 74% as per the bmi chart.

So you see, just cos it takes time, it doesn't make it any less successful. And remember, the scenic route is beautiful!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
