How long should I expect to be in the hospital? I am scheduled for Dec 22 and was hoping to be home by Dec 24. Definately before Christmas anyway. What are the chances I will be home before then?

My doc said 3-4 days and I was in for 4 because I was SO Swollen and couldn't get my Fluid in on day two so I had to stay all through day three and was relased on day 4! Monday for surgery, home on Thursday morning!

I was in for 2 days. My surgeon said I could go home after 1 day but recommended I stay 2. I was glad to go home. I found it easier at home to sleep and control my pain. I am glad I stayed 2 days though. I was ready to go home on day 2.

My doctor says two nights unless there is a complication. I am having my surgery on December 20 and I REALLY hope all goes well so I can be home for my kids for Christmas! Good luck with your surgery!

I was sleeved on Dec 1st. I was up in my room and walking by 2 pm that day-I was first in surgery at 7 am. I walked the hallways every hour up and down 2 times. The next morning, I was allowed Clear liquids. Since I had been walking, I had no issues with naseua or gas pain. I was only approved for a one day stay with my insurance and I was released by 10 am to go home the next day.

Our nurses was very attentive and I got a pain shot every 4 hours, along with iv fluids with an antibiotic and an acid reducer. I did not take any additional pain meds that were ordered if needed. Walking was the big key in getting released as soon as I did.

I hope you have as easy time as I did. I also had an hiatal hernia repair and a liver biospy as well as being sleeved.

Good Luck.

Hi there,

Due to some mix ups with the insurance, my surgery had to be moved until Dec. 27. I hope you are doing well! We will have a great 2011 and I can't wait to see where we are a year from now! : )

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
