I just learned that I'm tentatively scheduled for banding on July 24. Now, of course, it suddenly seems very real. For those who've already been through it, what do you wish you'd known earlier? Do you exercise as much as you're supposed to? Can you ever eat some semblance of a normal meal? Are you glad you did it?

Hi GE mom, Welcome to LBT!!

I can't think of anything I wish I'd known before being banded except maybe how to eat right and not need it in the first place?

Excercise? Well I can't lie there. I don't excercise like I should. I did at first but I HATE EXCERCISE!! I know it would be soooo much better for me if I did but I always find an excuse not to do it.

I can eat a normal meal just not as much as I use to. I am going in for a small unfill next week Because I have been having trouble lately getting food down and it staying down. It really depends on what you call a normal meal. I can't eat breads, and haven't been able to in a long while. But who needs the extra carbs right?

Am I glad I did it? OH YES!! I would do it all over again in a heart beat!!! I love my band!!!!

Again Welcome and congratulations on the date to your new journey!

So you're losing weight? Despite not as much exercise as you should? That's wonderful! (Wonderful in the sense that you're successful even with a few imperfections!)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
