4 months post op- weight loss has stopped

Recommended Posts

After about 2 months of surgery I noticed that I have been a "bad patient" it's so hard to be good! I haven't been drinking my Protein Drink or Vitamins. I have been eating chips and candy which I know i MUST stop but sheesh it's so hard. I have some sort of addiction. I do it when I'm bored. after I eat it I regret it. At times I will feel so bad I go to the bathroom and purposely throw it up. I was not exercising a lot, however, I have been running for the past 2 weeks. I have lost about 45 pounds since surgery in the 1st 2 months. After that I have been stuck in the same spot. I don't do Protein Drinks because I honestly cannot stand them, but I know I need to start again really soon. During the day I eat pretty good. Maybe some oatmeal for Breakfast and a sandwich, Soup or salad for lunch, but after work I eat bad things and I can't STOP! If I see chips I will eat it even if I'm not hungry. What is wrong with me!? I'm scared that I will stop loosing weight all together. I know that I have to eat better and stop the chips which I'm dedicated to do, but do you think theres any classes I can go through to help me. Not sure what it is.....ahhhh. I need to loose 40 more pounds! and I will not give up!

Hi Jenn,

Well you said yourself, you absolutely have to stop eating chips. They are going to disrupt your good behaviors. If it helps, anything I put in my mouth that comes with a nutrition facts, I absolutely study it. I guarantee that once you see it (and read it EVERY time you pick up a bag), you will put that bag down and find something better to munch on.

Also, have you ever tried Overeaters Anonymous? I actually one day plan to attend. We sometimes need to figure out what's eating us, rather than what we're eating. Bad habits form over years worth of time doing the same thing over and over. You were probably a night time snacker. Thus, you still try to do this now.

It sounds like you are still losing really well regardless. However if you continue to do this, especially as your stomach allows more food to fit in it over time, you will find it more difficult to lose. Don't do this to yourself!! You have undergone serious surgery, now you MUST see it through.

Hang tight. We are all here for you, in good times and bad times.

Keep us up on your progress. Hugs to you!!!

I definitely battle with boredom eating. When I'm at school all day, it's not an issue, but I spend most of my days at home on the computer listening to lectures online, and for my breaks, I check in here and play computer games. Being on the computer is the worst when it comes to mindless/boredom eating! Three things I find to help:

1) Remove the crap from your house. If you don't have candy or chips in the house, you'd have to actually go out and get them, and if it's boredom eating (rather than a major craving), you are not going to bother, 100%.

2) Keep healthy stuff to snack on. I like baby carrots, tiny cucumbers, sliced apples, or even just a banana.

3) Sip on tea or coffee. I like Arizona green tea, I add milk and Splenda to it and it satisfies the sweet tooth AND the oral fixation while I'm in front of the computer.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
