Hello!

Went to the drugstore today to buy ketosis strips to find out if I was in ketosis, I am. Okay do anyone have any suggestions on how to handle the bad breath? When my nutrionist put me on the post modified fast which put me into ketosis pre-op I could chew sugarless gum, I read that after WLS surgery chewing gum can fill your stomach with air. Does anyone know how long this Ketosis last? Should I just wait to see if this pass. When I return to work I do not want to have bad breath I work with a small group and we meet in a small conference room. Any advice would be truly appreciated. Thanks

Listerine breath strips or Sf breath mints. I'm not sure how long it will last. It depends on the person and a lot of other factors.

I chew gum all the time without issue. I don't smack my gum, or even chew with my mouth open. I don't get anymore air in my stomach while chewing gum than I do from eating meals. Early out gum is not recommended on the slight chance it might be swallowed.

I bought a tongue scraper, and carried the little Listerine breath strips with me if I had to meet with anyone. Ketosis will last as long as you low carb it. Once I started adding in my carbs, my body went out of ketosis.

Girl.... I feel ya. My nut recommended the breath strips, but they melt so fast and last like a second that I finally got some sugarless gum. I do not have any issues with the gum and I've been chewing since about two weeks out of surgery.

Good luck!!!!! :D

Breath assure tablets may work, I think they are filled with parsely extract. It works from the tummy out.

I would stay away from any type of chewing gum as I've heard horror stories about what happens if you accidentally swallow a piece. However, there are an array of sugar free breath mints. I'm trying a few because I too don't want to return to work with dragon breath lol. Just be careful because I realized for me that the mints gave my stomach a little bit of pain like I'd eaten something way too sour.

If you're in ketosis it means you are burning fat (some knowledge I remember from my Atkins days). Ketosis stops when you up your carb intake. Ketosis is a good thing though... at least I think so. I would ask my doctor for more information.

I do breath mints and brush my teeth often. When I was early out of surgery and doing mostly Protein, I had fuzzy teeth all the time too. I hate that feeling. Once I started adding more variety to my food palette the fuzzy teeth and icky mouth feeling diminished a lot.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
