Sippy Cup

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone:

Last night was my first night home. I felt pretty OK, nervous about NOT being in the hospital, but no major pain or nausea. DID have gas, though. Took the crushed Prolosec and GASX strips, they helped.

The one problem that I ddi have was, since I no longer have IV's of fluids attached to my arm, I was waking up every couple of hours wtih HORRIBLE dry mouth! I was so thirsty, and it is a pain to haul it out of bed in the middle of the night so soon after surgery just for a sip of Water.< /span>

Today I went to the food store and went into the Baby section and bought a "sippy cup," one of those non-spilll cups for Toddlers with a little drinking spout and two big kind of handles. I plan to keep that next to my bed for when I get thirsty in the night.

I'll let you know how it works out. Am counting my glasses today, it's HARD to drink that much water so soon after surgery, LOL, but dehydration is one of the dangers to guard against.

The gas is normal. Your bowels are absorbing the co2 used during surgery. Walking and hot showers help the most. I don't know about the sippy cup. You get a lot of air with those. I keep a bottle of Water next to my bed. Make sure you sit up all the way when you drink.

I'd worry about the sippy cup letting too much air in ;(

But, I hope you can find a way to stay hydrated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
