Slider foods are mushy consistency that don't stick around in the stomach long thus you might be able to eat more calories/carbs, and not get in your Protein. You might not feel satisfied, or you could get hungry sooner than if you eat dense Protein foods.

Since 90% of digestion occurs in the intestine, you're not going to feel full for long with slider foods slipping right through to your intestine. Dense protein will keep you full longer since it sticks around in the stomach longer. This article explains digestion pretty clearly.

Junk food, chips, crackers, pretzels, ice cream, mushy foods such as chili, mashed potatoes are typically slider foods. Rice, Pasta, and some breads are now slider foods for me and I have to really watch the quantity of those foods I eat. I do eat those foods, but I also know that it's not going to stick with me very long. I don't hungry, but if I eat a lot of those foods, I won't hit my protein goals, and go way over my carbs.

I can eat 1 solid cup of mushy consistency food like mashed potatoes, Pasta and rice, yogurt, pudding, cakes or ice cream. I can eat an entire "big grab" (ya know those 99 cent) bag of Funyuns or Doritos. If I eat meat with before or with any of the slider foods the limit is probably 1/4-1/2 cup depending on the food type. Like chili, it takes me a solid 35-45 minutes to eat 1 cup because of the meat.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
