Trying to get everything done before the end of the year

Recommended Posts

I am going to get VSG with Dr. Frank Chae in Lone Tree, CO. I am really confident that I am in good hands. My insurance requires me to do 3 months of visits with psych, nutritionist and exercise coach as well as attend a 5 hour class. Plus I am doing a sleep study on Monday. I will be done with everything on the 17th of December. I realized that, since all of my deductibles are met for this year, if I could sneak in at the end of the year I would save a ton of money. The problem is that I will be gone for Christmas from the 19th to the 30th. That leaves the 31st.

All the planets need to align in order for this to happen but I am keeping all of my appendages crossed. I am nervous about what life will be like afterward but everything is so hectic trying to get this done I don't have much time to think about post surgical life.

The thing I love about this surgery is that, for the first time in years, I have hope. I am tentative about it but I feel it in my gut.

Hopefully all the planets align for you. I am scheduled for 12/21 which totally blew my mind. From the time of the initial consult to approval was 2 1/2 weeks. Needless to say, that was a blessing. All I needed to do was pysch consult, NUT consult and meet with surgeon. Best of luck to ya1:rolleyes:

Good luck I hope it all works out for you!

We are currenly awaiting DH's approval, all his paperwork is sitting on a desk....argh! If we go into Jan 2011, it will be another $5K out of pocket....so we are hoping for this year, so I can totally relate to what you are feeling. Last day that the surgeon will do surgery this year is Dec. 20th. We need all the planets to align for this to happen for us too!

Well all the planets aligned and I got my surgery in tomorrow (I have to be there at 5:30am)!!!! That saves me a lot of money from insurance as all my copays are met this year! Now that I am not concentrating on trying to get everything done I am a bit nervous but more excited than anything. I have to tell you that I am really confident about all of the things I have to do to make this work except for the "no carbonation" thing. I have tried to quit diet cokes to no avail. Well I guess I won't have any choice after tomorrow...

Well making a resolution to lose weight seems like a safe bet at this point ;)

Congrats on your date. I got mine done on Dec 1st and met the out of pocket with the surgery as our deductible increase for next year. We still need to save so hubby can have his surgery hopefully in April. Lots of overtime for me to work but it is so worth it. I am loving the new me and it has only been one month.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
