Hello!

First of all I am italian so please forgive all my grammatical mistakes!

I haven't been sleeved yet, right now I am doing my research...

I read all the great comments about the surgeons in Mexico and I have been seriously considering them, I am worred about the jet lag and the long trip on the way back... That's why I have been in contact with both Belgium and dr. Cierny in Czech Republic.

My main problem is that my BMI isn't that high (34) but my reason to get sleeved is really the fact that I have type 1 diabetes since I was 10 (I am now 30). I have obesity history in the family as well. My intake of insulin is way too high (due to the food I ingurgitate every day) and my body is not responding the way it used too. I am also extremely worried about the long term consequences of a bad managed diabetes. I am SERIOUSLY worried. not long ago I went to a nutritionist last week who told me that I get way too much insulin for a normal body and that my situation it looks more like a diabetes 2 than 1 and I should be worried about the consequences.

The only thing I would be considered for here in Italy is the BIB and I have been seriously thinking about it. Until I realized that it won't be a good thing for me. I can't lose again weight and gain it back. It would destroy me and mess up completely my diabetes.

Here in Italy with my BMI only diabetics of type 2 get surgery, for type1it is not legal to get it. And I am so tired of hearing that. It has nothing to do with it but when I was younger I passed all the tests to become a flight attendant but at the very end I was told that only type2 can do the job. Type1 can't.

I have been thinking about it for a long time and I am sure it's the right thing for me to do. It is not a shortcut, it is not a caprice. I think it's the only thing for me to do.

Dr. Cierny is not sure about giving my surgery for the same reason. And I am sorry because I read great things about him here. In Belgium would be ok, I just haven't heard much the doctor who would perform the surgery: Dr. Toon Sonneville. I mean I saw an interview with him I read about him and his Gastric bypass surgeries but I couldn't find anything about the Sleeve...

So, so far this is my story... Now I am waiting up to get the final sentence from Dr. Cierny and to get the references from Dr. Sonneville...

Hi and welcome to the forum, it's a great source of information and feedback!

If you don't want to fly all the way to Mexico or if you are not getting positive replies from Czech or Belgian surgeons, I would suggest you contact CFTK here in Stockholm, Sweden. I had my Sleeve done there a month ago and can highly recommend them! Dag Arvidsson who did my sleeve is an experienced and well recommended surgeon within the weight loss surgery community.

You can find contact information etc on www.cftk.se The page is in swedish but I'm sure if you contact them via mail they will be happy to guide you.

Filosophia Scandinavia is a danish girl on this forum and she has just had her sleeve done in Athens, so there is another option for you.

Good luck and best wishes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
