My journey after 6 weeks of surgery

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done on October 15, 2010. I feel happy because I've lost 50 lbs so far (6 weeks after surgery). But at the same time, I feel frustrated. I cannot eat. I just, more or less, tolerate eggs and fish. My doctor keeps telling me it's normal. I feel weak. I miss eating. Since yesterday, I started feeling depressed and with anxiety. I get desesperate because I just want to be able to eat. I am not talking about big meals or anything like that, just being able to tolerate food. It's really hard. Did anyone went thru all this? Your support is really appreciate it.

Rosa, first - welcome to VST!! We are glad you joined :)

Now, I would've suggested you contact your surgeon but it looks like you already have. I really don't know, I think at your time out I was eating pretty normally at that point. Not hardly or nearly as much as I can eat now, but still, I could eat.

I don't want to worry you at all. Everyone's journey is a little different that the next guy. It's likely you're just on the tail end to where things will start picking up for you.

Have you tried incorporating supplements? They really do help so much with energy and just general feelings of good health. Protein shakes included. Make sure you get the whey Protein Isolate too, that is the best for our bodies.

Are you also making sure you are drinking at least 64 oz of Water? That does help so very much. Try to drink some full Gatorade as well. You need your electrolytes. I still wasn't getting enough so I now take my electrolytes in pill form. Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium and Vitamin D. Ever since I've taken these on a regular basis I've felt more and more normal.

We don't eat nearly as much as we used to and we have to make up for it in other ways. At least until we can eat more in our portion sizes and can get it naturally.

Please let us know how you're doing!!! Hugs to you! xx

Rosa,

When you say you cannot eat...do u mean you're vomiting or diarrhea or what? I am 15 days post op & still have trouble eating & drinking. It's uncomfortable, I have had trouble with diarrhea as well, but I'm not sure it's not moreso because of the gall bladder removal. Congrats on your 50 lbs loss! That's great! I hope everything gets better for you & you're able to eat! Keep us posted! :)

Rhonda

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
