18 month post-sleeve check in

Recommended Posts

So here I am 18 months post-sleeve, loving life, staying busy, and just living.

Yes, I can eat twice as much as I could at the 2-3 months post-op, but it's still a small amount. No more than 6-8 of mushy foods, and max 5oz of dense Protein. I can not even eat 1/2 chicken breast unless I take 45 minutes, and have some food lube to go with it. 1 Taco Bell soft taco, or 1-2 wedges from their steak quesadilla minus the top part of the tortilla, 3 subway meatballs with cheese, 1-1.5 slice of thin crust pizza, 4oz of steak with veggies, 1/2 Peanut Butter sandwich, etc etc.

I still take Prilosec once daily, and have no plans of stopping it any time soon. I just started working out again to tone up, and will going for my round of plastics consults after the first of the year. We are still "trying" to conceive, but I have given up on the charting and ovulation monitor. I had become obsessive about it, and that's not good for me, or my marriage. My son doesn't think I dress "age appropriately" because a girl at his middle school has the same pair of tights I wear on occasion. He said "mom, you can't wear those anymore, "E" has those same circly, purple tights and she's ONLY 14". . . I tried to explain to him that just because I'm nearly 34 doesn't mean I'm dead, and can't dress with style. I'm not rocking mini skirts and tube tops so in my mind, and per Stacy and Clinton, I am still within the guidelines of age appropriate clothing.

I do eat anything and everything I want. I have "bad" days when I don't hit Protein goals then there are other days I get in 100+gr per day. I don't track my food intake anymore as it's all kind of mental. I do a check in occasionally just to make sure my math is correct, and I eat anywhere between 1500-1800 calories a day. I do eat white carbs, but not in large quantities, and still follow the "protein first" rule 85-90% of the time. I eat dessert, I drink very socially, and I do not fret about food. I am just living life, and I go in this month for my 18 month follow up with my surgeon. I'll post my lab results once they are in, but it'll probably be closer to the end of the month for me to get in with Dr. M.

For those of you struggling right now, DO NOT GIVE UP on YOURSELF. This is a lifelong change and journey, try to remind yourself that you didn't get fat overnight, you're not going to get skinny overnight. For those of you just getting started, stay the course, find the path that works for you, and be smart about what you put in your mouth. Decision-making is a lot harder this far out. I can easily put away a lot of chips and salsa, pretzels with mustard, all junk food slides right down, and is just wasted calories. I do admit that some days I fall into the pit of hell on food choices, but I live each day for that day and do not beat myself up over it. I can't tell y'all enough how much this forum has meant to me, and the friendships I've formed over the last year and a half have been inspiring, and truly the best friendships I could have asked for. Thanks for all of the support, encouragement, and love that we've shared. I don't know what I would have done without y'all.

Now a new before and after side by side:

Pre-op stats: 270lbs, size 22/24W pant, 3-4X shirt, 8-8.5W shoe, 40-42D/DD bra, ring size 8.5

Love ya Tiff! You have given me so much hope when I was down about my failed band. I was so scared of having another weight loss surgery until I read about your journey. Thanks for helping me decide on the sleeve. You mean so much to all of us~

I really believe that having a positive and informative forum like this improves the odds of VSG weight loss. It is people like you that stick with the forums, and share their experiences that make the forum what it is. It is so easy to get off track without a friendly compass to steer by. Thanks and congratulations! I hope to contribute to this forum more fully after my surgery.

Thank You Tiffy. Your posts always seem to come out at the same time I'm needing a boost. I been really down lately, feeling like I may have made a mistake of getting the surgery. I'm having a really hard time. I feel like a failure, Thank you for you positive posts letting us know that it will all get better, and back to normal (but an even better normal),

Kelli

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

    • buildabetteranna

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
