It's the guide the surgeon uses to staple off the stomach. It matters because if the surgeon uses a big bougie (Over 40fr) it's been reported that there is a higher incidence of regain after 2 years. The size of the bougie does not determine the final size of the stomach. It's just a measuring tool the surgeons use. The standard sizes are 32, 34,36, 38 and 40fr(french) and some surgeons use a little bigger. But the most common are 32-40fr. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
