What size was your Fr Bougie?

Recommended Posts

I just got my surgical report today and the doc used a 36 on me. For some reason I thought it would be a 32.

What sizes were used on others?

Mine was a French 34. I wonder how much of a difference it makes?

I am a 34. I believe surgeons use larger size for lower BMI. My surgeon said he would use a 34 instead of a 32, because my BMI was "only" 42

I have a 32fr, and the difference between a 32 and 34, 36 and 38 is all less than 2mm. Our anatomy, surgeon technique and food choices will make more impact that the actual bougie size.

Here's a nice little chart to show the minimal difference between the sizes. Page 5 has the bougie that is similar to what was used on me.

Also, the size of the bougie is NOT the final size of the sleeve. It's a measuring tool/guide for the surgeon. Your stomach isn't going to be that small forever.

I had my surgery December 1, and feel pretty darn good! My doc used a 36 on me. He said that the smaller ones had a higher incidence of interfering with the blood vessels at the side of the stomach because he would be stapling closer to them. I think he is just ultra-careful, but that's okay with me because I'm pretty big. Like Tiffykins said, it's not the final size of your stomach anyway.

Mine is a 40. I was worried that there wasn't going to be as much restriction as a smaller one but I'm glad that mine is this size. I have had no problems so far.

Mine's a 36, and my surgeon oversewed so I understand it 's probably closer to a 32. As others have posted, though, the bougie size isn't necessarily a predictor of weight loss success. For one thing, the bougie determines the width, but our own anatomy determines the length of our stomach from esophagus to pylorus, which will be a big factor in capacity. Plus, once we've fully healed we'll be able to eat a bit more than we can early out. That's why the support system, food plan, exercise, and follow-up doctor appts are so important. It's not only how much we eat, but what and when.

I'm a 34C. Haha just kidding about the C part. But my doctor insisted to use a 34, but I wanted a 40. He said to trust him. But I know other doctors who won't do less than a 40.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.

I'm so sorry. I lost my pup (Mr. Bitters - a chocolate Pomeranian) 2 years ago and it still makes me tear up. He was my everything - my constant companion. I understand. Do the best you can to get back on track.
