Temp. Disability Benefits

Recommended Posts

I don't know if CA is different than othe states but after my last two surgeries (uterine / sinus) I was eligible for 6 weeks off (State disability) with approximately 55% pay (non-taxable from what I understand).

The doctor has to sign a form in addition to the application that I fill out and I'm wondering if having surgey in MX makes a difference. Does anyone know?

Wow that is something, I have to pay for my short term disability. For Aflac they only need the employer to fill out a notice of disability as well as the surgeon.

Yup, I live in California and when I had a Tummy Tuck three years ago my doctor filled out the disability paperwork and I got SDI for 6 weeks. I think the reason they are so generous with it is because you actually pay into those benefits.

I was shocked that I could get disabilty pay for an elective procedure but when I researched it online I found the confirmation they would cover it and once submitted even with the CPT code they didn't hesitate on the claim :) You will have one week waiting period before your entitled to benefits.

So if they will cover it for an elective procedure I am sure they do it for a medically necessary weight loss procedures. You can also get the benefits if you are not working but worked in the previous 18 months and are NOT getting unemployment.

But do you think it will matter that it's a surgeon in MX that is not licensed in the States? I called yesterday and waited on hold for about 30 minutes and then the girls said she couldn't answer my question. She saidI would have to apply to find out but I can't apply until 9 days after the surgery! Makes a LOT of sense.

I pulled up a couple of EDD documents, basically it reads that a physician has to be duly authorized and licensed and it talked about for elective disability plans the employers could request verification of forein doctors licensing. So it sounds to me that as long as it is a licensed physician who fills out and certifies the procedure, the disability, the duration and the CPT code it would be acceptable. Here is the link to the guide for the physicians, it lists which doctors can fill out the paperwork it just says licensed it doesn't say it had to be an american license etc:

PDF form

• File a certificate of disability signed by a duly

authorized medical or religious practitioner.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
