Any November 2010 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I was just sleeved on November 26, 2010 and wondered if anyone else out there has just had surgery. If so - interested in how they (as well as everyone else) are doing.

I was sleeved on the 15th and I am doing Great!!! Went back to work at one week after my drain was taken out! I'm on full liquids and this week I can add eggs! YAY! I'm not a big Soup person so I've been doing SF/FF pudding and Jello, Protein Drinks, milk, Water and pureed chili! My incisions are healing good and I get to start going back to the gym today!! I am so happy I went through with the surgery and just can't wait to really get my whole new life started!

Dawn: So you're doing better, that's great. I'm doing pretty good too, though eating is still a bit of a chore sometimes. I see my doc tomorrow, so I expect that I will get to eat eggs too. I can already chew pieces of chicken from my Soups. And you got cleared for the gym....I'm ready to get back into exercising. My daily weight loss is slowing, and I think that I need some exercise, I've basically lost these 22 pounds without a sweat (literally). Are you allowed to lift weights or just do cardio?

Matt

Doc just said to go at my own pace and listen to my body. Today I just walked on the treadmill for 30mins between 2.5 and 3mph! After 1lb weight loss last week I'm making myself NOT get on the scale until next Monday! LOL I will become obsessed and that is not what I need to do! LOL

I was sleeved on the 25th so this is day 6 for me. I am still on my Clear Liquids and very dizzy and light headed. With no calorie intake I am not really surprised. Working on the Protein got 30 grams yesterday. Going to get 60 today. I also woke up with a sharp pain in my belly button only when I move. So I guess I was wondering how you got 600-800 calories in on clear liquids that are suppose to be SF for the most part? I am also down 10 lbs CRAZY!

Hi All-

Just had my 2 week Post-Op today and doing fine. I started adding a bit of soft Protein last week as I was getting bored. No problems at all. Still losing 1-2 pounds per day and quite happy with that.

Got a few questions answered that I had seen posed on the list here:

-Stomach is fully healed at about 6 weeks

-My Dr. has never heard of your stomach leaking/bursting, but you can always get an ulcer, thus the reason he prescribes prophylactic Prevacid for 6 mos.

-They look for 1-2 pound loss for week, so I'm doing pretty well I guess!

-Still no lifting until after 6 week post-op, but aerobic exercise is ok...listen to your body. Walking, spinning, biking - all ok, but start back slowly.

-Still no baths, hot tubs, or swimming until 6 week post-op

-No rice, Pasta, bread, peas, corn

-oatmeal is ok!

Make sure you're doing your Calcium, multi Vitamin and D3...very important.

Other than that...back in 4 weeks for another check.

Hope this helps-

I had surgery last Friday - the 26th I think. The next day they didn't like the way the swallow test looked - said the sleeve looked to big at the top. I thought it was fine since it didn't leak but, the Dr. came in Saturday morning and said he wanted to redo it while I was in the hospital as I was paying cash and if we waited, we would incur another hospital stay. He redid the surgery Saturday. After surgery fever went to 103.5 for the day. Thought I could go home Sunday but the nurse? thought that it would be a good idea to crush and mix my effexor with Water - after I had the IVs out and was in the middle of being discharged. I had the most God awful reaction I wouldn't wish on anyone (other than the nurse that did it to me - not really....) ANYWAY - had violent reaction and ended up in the hospital another night. Finally home and trying to be positive and drink :) I have about enjoyed all of this I can handle. All the while trying to keep this quiet with only my husband knowing I had the surgery. It will get better I hope.

Hey Girl,

I've not kept track of my calories but I know they are low. I'm just trying to get the fluids in...tried the Protein bullets and they were a no go. I would recommend if you are getting light headed and dizzy to try a regular Gatorade or Powerade, that will give you some calories and electrolytes. I've been back at work for 2 days and I'm up and running from the time I get there till I leave and have not been tired at all. I just do one Powerade slushie (we have sonic in Texas) a day and chicken stock and Water (straight Water doesn't go down that easy for me). Hope that helps.

I got my sleeve on November 30, 2010. Although I'm so very happy to have gotten this done, I feel like I'm spinning. I'm on Clear liquids only for right now and I haven't loss a single pound. One would think if all you are taking in are liquids and less than 700 calories; I would have least dropped a pound or two by now. I'm venting at the moment, because I am hungry. I know things will get better.

The worst of my problems is not the food, or lack there of, it is that I am allergic to the adhesive on my bandages. It is itchy and blistering wherever the adhesive was placed. Apparently I am only sensitive on the area of my stomach, of all places and not my knee, finger or arm.

Oh wow...I had the worst itchy stomach too and small red bumps around only one of my incisions. The doctor said that's all part of the normal healing process. But now that I think about it, since I took the bandages off that one incision site, the itchy's are gone...hmmm. Odd that it'd only happen in one spot.

I was sleeved on the 29th and went back to work yesterday. So far so good, but did have to take a couple of breaks and rest and took 2 shots of pain medication. I had stopped taking the pain meds but didn't want to wait in case the pain got worse. I feel better and better every day but I know I'm not getting in enough Protein and just dread the hair loss! I have super curly hair and have heard that when hair grows back, it tends to come back as a different texture. Water is also pretty narly right now. I tried Crystal Light but that didn't do much for the taste, what helps is making sure it's very, very cold and adding a little bit of cranberry juice.

I tried pushing myself too fast on what food I could eat, I thought since the Dr. said it was okay to eat the next stage that I'd be okay as long as I chewed my food really well. I ended up feeling kinda queasy and gassy, so I've gone back to eating pureed food.

A problem for me is taking my Calcium. I ordered from Bariatric Advantage and it's just so hard to get that chewable down. Ugh! Does anyone have any suggestions?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
