Ok, so as of the 24th I was denied by my insurance company.

They said I didn't have six months of weigh management. WHICH I DID!

So I'm waiting response from the coordinator at my program to find out what exactly they sent over.

I talked to my mom. My surgery was scheduled for December 20th.

Putting me at a start date for the PRE op diet on December 6th.

Even though I was denied, my mom told me not to give up. She had the same issue, was denied at first.... and then approved within weeks.

Example: She sent everything in Feb 1st. was denied.... fixed everything.. was approved. and had surgery on the 17th of Feb.

We work for the same company so we have the same insurance. And, even most of the same documentation (we both did the same weight management classes)

I'm a little lost right now. We're working on appealing or whatever the insurance company.

Should I still start the pre op just in case?

I am just so clueless. I don't want to start it and get my hopes up. But, at the same time I don't want to NOT start it and get approved and that get in the way.

Thanks for any help.

Personally, I would at least start the low carbs now. It'll be good prep work for life after the sleeve. It'll help shrink the slippery fat on the outside of the liver, and make surgery easier for you and your surgeon.

Best option is to start to make sure you are prepped. If all is happening the same way as mom then you will probably get approval as well.

I agree with Tiffy. Start the low carbs. It sounds like a paperwork snafu that they might be able to fix pretty easily. I know that my insurance coordinator seemed pretty casual about fixing the paper work and resubmitting it (as though it would be something to expect), so I wouldn't give it up yet.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
