determined1 3 Posted November 28, 2010 Ive heard about ppl getting the hiccups but why? Has anyone asked their dr? Is it b/c you eat too much, too fast, or is it normal for wls patients as a full signal??? Please post your thoughts on this.. Thank you and LOVE you guys! KSUCats 0 Posted November 28, 2010 I'll be 2 weeks out tomorrow, and I do notice I get the hiccups alot easier.. I'm not sure why though. I also notice I burp ALOT, after eating or drinking. I think maybe it's because there isn't alot of room for air in our tiny stomachs? I dunno... it is kind of annoying though, I feel like I burp all the time lol!! Tiffykins 673 Posted November 28, 2010 It's my only true full signal. It's only 1 hiccup, and I know if I eat anything else, I'll actually "feel" full. My surgeon said that it's just sometimes the body's reaction to getting full. I remember pre-op when I overate, I'd get the hiccups especially with bready type foods i.e. pizza.< /p>
AutumnLily 77 Posted November 28, 2010 I am still pre-op and if I eat too much I get hiccups. So I would assume it is the same for post-op. Lily
SarahS 13 Posted November 28, 2010 I just started getting hiccups after I ate a few days ago! I was wondering the same thing! I was thinking I ate too fast or too much. Sometimes I hiccup so hard I feel like I will vomit. No fun!
LowCho 1 Posted November 28, 2010 I seem to get hiccups at odd times like when I'm not eating or an hour or two after ... funny, huh.
determined1 3 Posted November 29, 2010 Tiff is lucky ~ only ONE hiccup!! what? lol Mine are so deep and forceful, still dont know why they decide to come so strong. Usually only get about 10 or less tho...weird!
Travis Goodnight MD FACS 3 Posted November 29, 2010 Hiccups are a weird thing. They are often associated with irritation of the diaphragm. Your diaphragm is right above your stomach so it would make some sense that if your sleeve got distended, it would irritate the diaphragm. I usually see it shortly after surgery when we operate on the area and irritate. Obviously, you guys are living with it for some time. It would be interesting to see if it resolves after a year or so. It should, as Lap Nissen patients have the same issues. Dr.G
lunarose 97 Posted November 30, 2010 Hi, Pre-op I would only get hiccups if I ate too fast. Now I get them if I eat too much or too fast and if I hiccup more then 2 or 3 times then I know I am about to get the foamies. I also will hiccup once or twice about a half hour after a meal. Nancy I tend to get a hippup-wheeze about 20min to a half hour after eating. Its usually because I ate a little too much. I'm still lapband but will be sleeved in jan. M2G 1,836 Posted December 3, 2010 For me no hiccups...but the burping, was horrible right after surgery for about 2 weeks. Every sip would = two burps. It finally went away. I still have lots of burping after eating, but it is much quieter and more controllable now, than it was at first. Ugh!
w8warrior 0 Posted January 11, 2011 OMG, the burping is the worst for me. I tell everyone that is my only complaint. It is so embarrassing and you cannot help it!! I would give anything to figure out how to eat and drink without swollowing so much air. My doctor says it will get better but, I am 10 weeks out and still burping away!
