DANGIT!!!! It is official, my hair is falling out. EXPLETIVE!

Recommended Posts

Well tomorrow I am 15 weeks out (I think) and I have been finding hair all over the house in random areas. I know it is mine because I have two boys and my hubby around here, and I am the only one with long stringy hair. I was trying to act like it was just coincidence but today as I was fixing it and I looked down at a comb I had used was full of a huge clump of hair. I then ran my hand down my hair and a bunch of long strings came right off. D*MNIT! I was hoping to dodge this bullet. I can't tell yet because I have a ton of hair but I remember after the birth of both of my boys that I lost quite a bit.

I know it is lame but it kinda makes me wana cry.

That sucks! I seem to be losing a bit more lately, as well. No clumps or anything dramatic like that, but I definitely have to clean my hairbrush more often and when I'm washing my hair, it seems that strands keep coming out no matter how many times I run my fingers through it.

I'm having my surgery on December 1, and that is a big worry of mine. My hair isn't too thick as it is, but I think if I lose some, it will grow back and it's worth being smaller. Hey, maybe my head will shrink too, and therefore the follicles will be closer together, and my hair will look thicker! One can dream...

yep, me too... I have really fine hair and it is just getting finer and finer... starting to show a little too... funny thing is that, it is only fine around the top area, sides and back are as normal... similar area to where a man goes thin first... I know it is only temp, but I don't like it at all... getting a trim tomorrow, so hopefully a nice shape will make it look better!

Another thing that is weird though is the fact that is it in excellent condition... really shiny and seems stronger even though there is a lot less... does that make sense????

I have to say you made me giggle uncontrollably because it sounds plausible! Ahhhh thank you for giving me a real good giggle.

People used to keep their hair in a "hair saver". Then they would make a "rat" out of it and use it to plump up Buns or on top to boof their hair up. I think I might try this when the hair starts falling out. At least I might get a big old bun plumper out of it! cry_smile.gif

Good idea, feedyoureye! It's going to be nice to have a bun plumper instead of a plump butt!

OMG! That is one of my biggest fears! I watch the brush constantly wondering if I'm losing more than I was before.. Its even harder knowing I'm only a month out and it could happen up to 6 months or more after the surgery! I asked my DR at my pre op visit what are the chances and he said that as long as I keep my Vitamins and minerals where they need to be, it wont be a problem and that most cases the clients already had a low count... I'm starting to wonder if this is a line of BS since he's a man and I dont think they quite understand the devastation of us women losing hair..

All I can do is hope I'm lucky enough not to have to go through this, if so, I've heard a lot of women chose to go with short hair cuts... I think I may check into extensions if it does

Good news is that it does grows back ! ! ! It is kind of "HOLY CRAP" moment, but it's so worth it. I did chop my hair off after the shedding slowed down, cut major layers into it, and that helped "hide" the thinness. I've had a huge head of hair my entire life, and I literally lost half of my hair by volume. It's nowhere near pre-up status, but it's getting there. Come to think of it, I'm coming up on a year for when it finally stopped falling out. I just cut off 3 inches in the back, and did a dramatic bang for a different look. Finally all my layers have grown out, but I still have shorter hairs that are new growth coming in.

I don't think it's lame at all. Its a very emotional thing for us women to lose our hair. I have medium/thick hair that is to the middle of my back. I have been contemplating what I am going to do when I start losing it. I am still pre-op right now. I have been buying the Niacin shampoo/conditioner and storing it, doing scalp massage, I bought a good mulitivitamin with the hair, skin, nails formula in it (using it now to hopefully grow more hair). I thought about extentions, but I was scared that the weight of the extentions would cause even more hair to fall out. I don't know. But I am considering maybe wearing hats or hair bandsfor a while.....or coloring my scalp!! I am more worried about having bald spots than I am having complications!! I am just planning on having a good 2 years of crappy thinning hair. 1 year for it to fall out and another 1 year for it to fully grown back in.

But I still don't understand what causes the Hair loss to begin with. Low calories is all I can think of. I am not a huge Protein eater now and my hair doesn't fall out. The sleevers arent malabsorbers. I have had major surgeries and never lost any hair before. I am hoping to dodge the hair bullet myself.....but I will plan on it happening.....SADLY!!

It must be the Hair loss time for the September group...it's a little scary in the shower drain these days:unsure: how long will the hair loss last? Maybe I will drop a couple more pounds in hair loss. Oh well, I hear skinny and bald is "HOT" guess I'll wait and see:lol: :o

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
