I have the hiccups....

Recommended Posts

could this lead to a slippage or anything? I keep trying to stop them but they keep coming. I am like holding my breath, drinking Water, breathing into the stupid paper bag and nothing will stop them. They just came out of the blue.

Please tell me this is not the same thing as pbing.

Thanks

No - hiccups are not the same as a PB. Looks like your surgery was in December, is that right? If so I'm sure you're COMPLETELY healed up, lol, so it probably isn't a problem. I had a fairly mild episode of hiccups about a week ago and didn't feel any pressure or tenderness, no problem eating solids. Hmmmmm. This is a good question. I may have to ask my doctor when I check in with him this week. Maybe your doctor could recommend a solution to hiccups. If so I'd sure be interested in hearing it!

Let us know how you're doing.

Thanks for responding. Yes, my surgery was in December of last year.

I wonder what made them come about. All I could think about was my $7,300.00 for the procedure. I eventually got rid of them by tying a plastic bag (kind from Safeway) around my neck. My oldest son was completely baffled by my actions. He said, "Mom, do you remember you told me that plastic bags around your head will kill you? That's a plastic bag you have around your head." I fell out laughing.

Oh my. I don't recommend the plastic bag over the head cure. What if you passed out? You'd suffocate. At least your son was there. He's not mad at you or anything is he? lol Any recent change in life insurance coverage?

No - plastic bag technique is not on my hiccup solution list.

Try sugar, or peanutbutter. You are the first person that I have heard of who tied a bag over their head!

I also seem to get them if I eat too quickly, too much or when I PB.

I've never heard of Peanut Butter or sugar. Will keep this one in mind in case it ever happens again. This is the first time I've gotten hiccups since the band.

DonnaB- I tell you the only thing I could think of was my $7,300.00! It was the only thing on my mind. At first I tried holding the bag to my mouth but I couldn't get a good suction, so I tied it around my neck and then held it with my hands. I was trying to get the bag to fill up with carbon dioxide as quickly as possible. I think if it had started to feel woozy I would have torn it off or something..:-).

Fortunately, they stopped. I just can't figure out what brought them about. I sure hope they don't come back becasue i don't want to do anything to jeopardize my investment.

Thanks

You all must forgive me but I'm a new bander and I'm oh so curious as to what PB means. I can't figure it out to save my life. Someone, please spell it out for me. I'm dying to know...I'm sure I'll feel like an idiot once someone tells me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
