My surgeon told me that two of the earliest and most reliable signs were rapid heartbeat and high fever.

Thank you all. Thankfully I don't have any of those symptoms. Just a little pain on my right side. It seems to have started after I had my drain removed Monday.

Thank you all. Thankfully I don't have any of those symptoms. Just a little pain on my right side. It seems to have started after I had my drain removed Monday.

My drain was on the left side, and after i had it removed i had discomfort for several days, my doc says my body was rejecting the plastic tubing because it was a forign body and it was irritated inside, it finally went away. i would say that if it gets worse or you develop any other sign of a leak, then contact your doctor immediately.....feel better, vicki

Oh the drain is the worst part about having surgery (at least IMO). I had mine on the right side and had it for 6 days following surgery. The day I got it out, I spiked a fever and felt miserable (I was so happy to have it gone though!) I took 2 pain pills that night and felt better the next day.

That incision didn't get any stitches or closure so it is the slowest incision of mine to heal.
