Gastric Sleeve & Roller Derby

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I was sleeved 03/18/10 and have lost 112 lbs. I'm 16 lbs to goal at 159. I joined a roller derby team in April and our workouts burn 3000 calories twice a week.

Not only am i worried about maintaining 159, i'm concerned about making up those calories when i'm eating only 950 - 1050 calories per day.

Any athletes on here have any suggestions on how to maintain weight with high calorie workouts?

Any help is greatly appreciated! :)

Poey

I have absolutely no help for you whatsoever, but I did want to chime in and say, "Good for you!" I am a HUGE fan of the Nashville Rollergirls and I think it is awesome what those ladies can do.

One of my goals once I get sleeved and have lost enough weight to get my balance back on track is to get back out on the rink. I am certainly not derby-worthy, but I used to love to skate when I was a teen. Watching the derby for the past couple of years has made me long to get back on the skates--and not those yukky roller blades. REAL four wheel roller skates.

What team do you skate with?

Lisa

I am no except since I was just sleeved but for most things that I read, you should probably drink a Protein Drink which may add some calories and extra Protein can never hurt with all that exercising. I just hope I will be as active when I am that close to goal. My husband and I have recently started hiking.

I was just laughing about a mass gainer from GNC because it had 850 calories in a serving - that sounds like it would be a great thing for you then. Just make sure you are really burning 3000 calories because that seems like an awful lot!

One of my major goals aafter being sleeved is being able to go and "play" at a roller Derby practice even though I know I'll never be team worthy! Just to be able to say I did it once would be SO awesome!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
