I had a liver ultrasound done last year. I have had for years abnormal liver function blood test-this was my first indication of diabetes and then diagnosed with non alcohlic fatty liver disease. The great thing is with this surgery it will get this under control and reverse the condition...I will never say cure as once diagnosed you will also have it but it will put it in remission.

I had one several months ago and there was discomfort but not real pain. I was SHOCKED when the Gastroentologist told me I had an enlarged liver just be feeling it! My blood tests have always been normal so it was very depressing to find out that I have a fatty/enlarged liver. He is the one that put WLS in my head. At first I was insulted and pissed off that he had the nerve to say that to me but I started researching and I hope to get sleeved in December (hoping I don't chicken out).

I panicked and did a ton of research after finding out about my liver and the good thing is that the liver is the only organ that can regenerate itself. The bad thing is that if it gets bad enough it turns to cirrhosis and that is permanent damage. One of the things that opened my mind to WLS. I have the liver of a heavy drinker and I don't drink at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
