When's the change begin?

Recommended Posts

Sleeved 11/10. Very good recovery. Very minimal pain directly post op. No nausea- until taking chewable MVI (that's another story). Anyway, when does the change begin? Comming up on 2 weeks post op soon. Chrystal light and SF Jello all the way. Weight loss....Lost the #10 of Fluid given to me via surgery, but other than that only about 3#. Always thought the weight loss would be so much more dramatic! Just don't understand how my body could NOT be melting away with taking nothing in! It's just like nothing has changed! I know I know...just need to chill out and wait for it. Just wild seeing all the stories on here with all the seemingly 'instant' success. Still doesn't seem real that I've even had anything done.

I am right here with you lisa, i was sleeved on 11/1, and i must have been dillusional too, because i have only lost 8 lbs, actually 11, but gained 3 back. ugh....i started mushies tonight, thinking it would hit my sleeve like a brick and i would finally feel the restriction i have been anticipating, but no, i kept taking bite after bite till it was gone and nothing, i am able to drink endless amts now and the mushies didn't have a big impact. doesnt seem real to me either.....good luck, hope we both find the reality most have posted on here soon....vicki :)

Don't get upset with it I was the same way couldn't figure out how you only get like 500 cals a day and still don't lose. Everyone on here will tell you stay with your plan and it will come off just focus on letting your body heal it has went though alot of changing don't get discouraged. I went on like a 1 1/2 week stall after surgery was totally beating myself up everyone on here told me the same thing and it has started moving again its slow but thats ok it gives me time to try and tone some in between. Good luck and remember it will come off. :)

I went through the same thing.. My dr said you wont lose the first week due to all the Fluid retention along with the anesthesia.. I wasn't losing lbs, but noticed my clothes were fitting loser and my face getting thinner.. Its an adjustment period and your going to go through a few stalls. After that stall, I started losing about a half pound a day for about a week and half and stopped again and gained a couple pounds. Didn't weight myself for a few days and when I did I had lost 5 lbs. Everyone is going to lose at different rates. Hang in there, it will happen :D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
