I'm home & full of trapped air! :(

Recommended Posts

Hello, I had my surgery Thursday morning, Niov 18 @ 9:45 & just got home today! I am hoping someone out there can tell me what I can do to get rid of this trapped gas inside of me! I have tried Maalox, Gas X strips & walking, walking & more walking...it refuses to go out! I am miserable because of this, but everything else is healing fine. Please share with me any thing I can try to get some relief! Thanks so much!

Hello Rhonda. My 4 week anniversary is coming up on Tuesday, so this is all pretty fresh for me. I would say that everything you are doing "helps" relieve the trapped air, but in my experience only time gets rid of it completely. You might want to try sipping some warm tea. I began feeling better at about day 5 and by day 7 it was gone. I promise it gets better!

Best Wishes!

Lisa

Walk, walk, walk, and more walking. I did some light stretching by stretching my arms above my head, and kind of twisting my upper torso. A heating pad on low as well will help the gas escape. I never "felt" it escape, no burping or tooting was ever experienced so I'm not sure where it went or how it escaped.

I too have been using a heating pad (two actually, one on my shoulder and one on my back or tummy) and Gas-X (which doesn't work for me)! Today I bought some Maylox and I don't know if it's helping or if the gas is just getting better but I feel WAY better today then yesterday!!!

Feel somewhat better today, but still have some air behind my chest, shoulder & now I'm having lower back pain. Is this from the trapped air as well? Someone please tell me this is normal! :(

Also, has anyone ever felt bad pressure in their throat & chest when they swallow? It is such a chore to swallow my liquids because of this awful pressure! Thanks 4 any info you can give me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
