BBQ recipe post brought this question to mind

Recommended Posts

I too love BBQ, but I consider it one of my "trigger" foods. By trigger I mean I just want to eat and eat it if I it is around.

A couple other foods for me like that is tuna salad, egg salad, choc pudding and especially SO good BBQ oh and spaghetti.

So I try to avoid having them all in the house or making them.

My question is does anyone else have this problem too? If so how has the sleeve helped you or not helped you or does that all go to the wayside afterward as there just is not room for too much of your trigger foods?

I am newly sleeved and still on Clear Liquids so it's not hard right now! LOL BUT, my trigger foods have always been chocolate and Ice Cream! My plan is not to have them in my house PERIOD so that I'm not tempted!!

Not sure if BBQ is a trigger food for me BUT I LOVE IT! I keep all ice cream out of the house (def. a trigger food). But I have had Sweet baby rays (1 tbsp) BBQ Sauce on my chicken and it satisfies me. I have taken one bite too many over the last couple months and REGRET it so I know how much I can eat and dont go past it-even if I wanted more, when my sleeve gets full -its FULL thats it-game over!! I do have trigger foods and yes the sleeve does stop me from overindulging or I get sick and puke- such an awful feeling.. Then when you start losing wt, you are feeling good about yourself and you WANT to make better choices :) I love my sleeve!

You must be my twin because I have the same "trigger foods". I could eat tons of spaghetti, barbque, egg, chicken and tuna salad pre-op, and would literally eat until I was miserable on those foods. Now at almost 18 months post sleeve, I have little to no desire to eat large quantities. I eat my small portion, I'm satisfied, and I'm to the rest of my day. It's kind of funny because I usually bring leftovers home, but lately I've been not wanting to eat whatever yummy stuff I bring home. It's like I've satisfied that craving, and have zero desire to eat it again. Of course, there are ways for me to eat around my sleeve, a glass of wine before a meal or a hot tea allows me to fit more in, so if I'm having one of those " I want more moments", I admit I have a glass of wine, or a cup of tea/coffee before my meal. The portions I'm eating now are still so small compared to what I ate pre-op that even when I 'cheat' the sleeve, I'm not eating a lot of food.

I honestly have lost all of my desire to eat large quantities.

Tiff, if being your twin makes me look as good as you do now when all is said and done I will be happy to accept that title :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
