Has Anyone Cheated On Their Post-Op Diet?

Recommended Posts

10 days out, I ate a donut dipped in coffee and threw it back up. During the liquid phase, a few times I put crumbled-up saltines at the bottom of the cup when I was eating strained cream Soups so they'd soak well before I ate them. I didn't tolerate those very well.

I started pureed/very soft foods almost a week ago and have found that I can tolerate almost anything if it's tiny portions eaten a miniscule bite at a time and each bite is chewed 25 times. Saturday I had a few bites of toast with my scrambled egg, stopped eating it when I didn't feel well. Sunday was 2 or 3 Bugles. Yesterday was two hush puppies from Long John Silver's.

I ate about a 1/4 of a homemade chicken tamale last night and luckily did not throw it up but experienced discomfort for about 2 hrs. I am about a month postop and still on full liquids per my doctor. I know i could handle pureed diet by now but im following the timeline for now. It was my first time cheating and i dont regret it because now that ive experienced it i wont do it again. I learn things the hard way apparently.

Yeah, I had a few bites of Stove Top stuffing during the liquid phase and it did not go well. A month on liquids is a long time!

Yeah the medical group (west medical) that i did my surgery through have patients do liquids for 1 month and then pureed for 1 week then soft foods to solid. I agree its a bit overkill but i figure it well help to get the max out of my weight loss during this stage.

I only had to do liquids for a week post-surgery, then I got to move to puréed food. Almost everything is hard to keep down. Puréed chicken salad, scrambled eggs - all came right back up. I did have a couple of Doritos that my nephew didn’t eat, but I mostly just sucked on them until they dissolved. Vienna sausages go down pretty well. A deviled egg. Lentil Soup. My mom made some crockpot beef veggie soup that I tolerated pretty good. I think it’s trial or error with me.

Wow...you guys are brave...donuts? Tamales? Do ritos? Here is am trying to eat sugar free yogurt 😳Popsicles. I tried two bites of extremely moist meatloaf and was sick all night long. I can't even eat Tomato Soup. The acid of anything even a mashed boiled egg keeps me burping sour nasty burps. The only thing that went down smooth was a Protein Shake I made with bananas, Peanut Butter and fat free milk. I am planning on Keto dieting after I heal. If I can take it. Artificial sugars make me so nauseous. I am going nuts hungry and sick of Jello, broth AND YOGURT! 15 days post surgery. Lost 16 pounds

Oh my gosh! I had the same issue with Stove Top stuffing! I thought if I added some unflavored Protein Powder it would be okay, but I learned my lesson!

1 week post op and I've only added a few noodles in my chicken noodle Soup (the package powder type) and maybe a 1/2 inch (cut into small pieces) of tofu in my miso soup. Had no issues

Just curious and be honest if anyone has cheated on their post-op diet and what the consequences were? I feel so hungry and have honestly been contemplating putting something in the food processor and having a few bites of a mushie.

I cheated once with two baked chicken wings, and some of an empanada on stage three. I’m gonna be honest it didn’t hurt. I didn’t hurt and I didn’t feel full. I was scared though, that my body couldn’t process it. I don’t know. It was also my graduation night.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
