I think I overdid it. =(

I have been doing pretty well after being sleeved on the 9th. My parents left on Sunday...so I have had a lot more to get done this week. I haven't done my normal...but probably more than I should have. Anyway, my pain was getting better everyday, which is good. Then, Thursday I had Student of the Month assembly for dd and a Thanksgiving program for ds4. Yesterday I had to take dd in for her allergy shots (had to take ds5...3 yrs old with us). When I got home, I was TIRED and sore. I have the burning pain on the left side where my pain had been before. I would say it hurts about like it did on Monday/Tuesday. I actually took the max dose of vicodin last night. This morning it hurts just as much. Did I pull something? Did I just overdo it? Not good since ds2 has a Jazz Band concert this morning AND my sister is coming over today with her 2 kiddos (ages 5 and 2). Sigh. I am thinking vicodin may be my friend today. I had weaned mostly off it. Would you be worried?

Oh...one more question. Does anyone else wake with heartburn?? I am taking Protonix once a day already. Is it that I need to eat?

You might have overdone it, it's impossible to say. If you have ongoing severe pain after 10 days postop I would give your doctor's office a call and see what they say.

Regarding reflux - I never had it preop although apparently I had a hiatus hernia which was fixed during sleeve op. I woke up with AWFUL reflux, flt like something grabbing my throat then just rolling uphill. Ugh, it was yuck. They gave me something IV in hospital, then I went onto nexium. Once a day wasn't cutting it so they made it 20mg twice a day, plus then had to add a zantac in the afternoon/evening. I am off to the doctor's tomorrow to get this investigated because it's miserable.

You should ask your doctor what to take for reflux though, I wouldn't self medicate.

I started taking Protonix 2x a day and it pretty much fixed the heartburn and reflux I was having. I never had reflux problems before surgery, but I, too, had a hiatal hernia repaired at the time of surgery and it was killer afterward. Eating didn't really help me, and drinking warm liquids helped, but only while I was drinking them. After, I felt like I could breathe fire. Protonix was definitely my saving grace.

Sounds like you just overdid it. I had a day like that (I think it was 6 days post-op) and I had my drain pulled and wasn't ready for the gush of blood and Fluid that soaked right though the gauze, then tried to do some shopping at costco with my mom (she pushed the cart and lifted everything) and by midnight, I took 2 pain pills (even though I had weaned off of them by day 3.) I realized that I had been sleeping on the opposite side of the drain (to not interfere) and that night that I had it pulled, I could NOT sleep on my left side (the drain was on the right side)....it was as if my body was saying "NO MORE...you CANNOT sleep on this side any more because you have exhausted it!" That pain on my left side took about 3 more days to subside. :(

That being said, only you know your own pain tolerance. If you have serious concerns, I would call the dr. asap. Otherwise I think you can chalk it up to overdoing things too quickly. I feel for ya...I only have 2 kiddos and they keep me hopping. Hope you feel better soon!

I am really feeling like I just pulled something wrong. I have a sharp pain ONLY when I am moving or sit wrong. If I am still or up for a little while it doesn't really hurt that much at all. I am thinking I will give it until Monday and if it is still bad I will call the Dr then.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
